Chhattisgarh plans to ban old commercial vehicles

Chhattisgarh state environment control board (CSEB) has identified 5 major sources of pollution:
  • Industrial effluents
  • Vehicles' pollution,
  • Construction activities,
  • Urban solid waste material, domestic waste
  • Agriculture waste pollution

And to curb vehicles' pollution, CSEB has decided to take following measures:
  • Ban on Buses older than 12 years, trucks.
  • Ban on auto-rickshaws older than 10 years.
  • Owners of these vehicles to be given 1 year time limit to buy new vehicles for registration.
  • Ban on Vehicles coming from others states > 8 years old.
  • Promotion of E-rickshaws with financial assistance.

However, the implementation date is still unclear.

re: Chhattisgarh plans to ban old commercial vehicles

Looks like this is the new "wave" for government agencies, BAN.

*Brain waves of a Babu*

We are not able to regulate something - BAN it!

We are not able to police something - BAN it!

We need to do something - BAN

Sorry for the rant. This has got to stop. Banning vehicles would only give rise to dubious activities.

The axe invariably falls on the softest target. The old vehicles, this time again commercial.

The builders lobby wont allow any tampering with the present practices in their construction activities.

The industrial wastes cannot be touched as election money will not be pouring if there is any ban.

Agriculture: that's a TOUCH ME NOT arena. Nobody will dare act.

And urban waste: Some machinery can be imported or indigenuously acquired to treat these urban wastes. Press publicity will be terrific during the inauguration of such machinery. The machine/s will function for sometime and after that the government will be unable to get it repaired. No money, no spares, the files lost to rats and so on.

Since 8 years or older CV's from other states wont be allowed, the bus or truck operator could as well park a newer truck or bus at the border and ferry goods or passengers into Chhattisgarh from the borders.

In turn, the goods or passengers from Chhattisgarh can be then transferred to the older vehicle that empties its contents, to move into the respective state and place from where it came.
