Tata Motors launches Prima trucks in Bangladesh

Tata Motors has launched the Prima heavy commercial vehicles range in Bangladesh with partner Nitol Motors Limited. The range includes one models in the tipper segment and three in the cargo segment.

All the models introduced are powered by engines from Cummins Inc. with a power output of 230 HP. The cabin of the Tata Prima truck features air-conditioning, reclining seats with arm rests, an adjustable steering system, a music system, with Global Positioning System (GPS).

Here's a look at the models introduced:

Cargo segment
  • The Prima LX 2523.T comes with an Eaton's ES-9106A DD gearbox and a heavy-duty Tata RA 110 rear axle. It is equipped with a 4-point suspension, mechanically suspended seats, optional air-conditioning and wide bunks.
  • The PRIMA LX 4023.S & PRIMA LX 4923.S are single axle and twin-axle tractor heads with a Cummins ISBe engine, larger clutch and a Tata G1150 OD gearbox with 9-speed ranges and overdrive.

Tipper segment
  • The Tipper Construck Prima 2523.K LX is powered by a CRDi Engine from Cummins coupled with a Tata G1150 9-speed gearbox. It comes with a heavy duty 37T bogie suspension and optional air-conditioning.

We shall be happy if an Indian company gains market share in SAARC countries. Players like Tata and Mahindra know the developing country market very well and I wish them success.

Now my concern:
Is Prima too high end to launch in Bangladesh? Do they have adequate road infrastructure and maintenance mindset?

I remember how volvo trucks first gained some popularity but vanished from the market because of overload restriction.

Is Bangladesh not a good market for Tata 1510, 407, 207 and ACE instead of Prima? Are they already selling these CVs there? Request experts to throw some light.
