Daimler India Commercial Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. (DICV), the 100% wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, today launched 4 new BharatBenz trucks. 3 tractor & 1 construction-mining models were launched.



High Points:

• DICV has sold a total of 7500+ trucks since launch. (In 15 months)
• 75 dealerships are up and running as of date. ~25 to be added in the coming months / year.
• Currently at the 4th position in India.
• DICV now considering the option of exporting the trucks to 15 countries, from India.
• Soon to enter the bus sector, with both front and rear engined buses. Ground breaking expected on 6th March '14.

3128 CM (8x4): 18 cbm rock tipper
Price expected to be around 40 lakhs on road (MH) including 2% CST.

• 31 tonne GVW
• 6 cylinder 6373 cc engine producing 280 BHP @ 2200 rpm & 1100 Nm @ 1200-1600 rpm.
• G131 gearbox with 9 forward + 1 reverse gear.

Price expected to be around 27-28 lakhs on road (MH).

• 6-cylinder 6373 cc producing 280 BHP @ 2200 rpm & 1100 Nm @ 1200-1600 rpm.
• G131 gearbox with 9 forward + 1 reverse gear.
• Maximum gradeability of 24.5%. Maximum geared speed of 90 kmph.
• Fuel tank capacity - 380 / 200 (Litres additional as option).

What were Daimler boffins thinking when it came to choosing the tail light?

It's the same sub-standard stuff that everyone else uses in the country. It's characterized by poor illumination, poor visibility, poor sealing, fast-fuse-poor-quality bulbs, poor everything! That too in a Rs. 40 lakh truck!

But then human life is cheap in India, isn't it?

Indian truck and made for India so India's favourite tail-light

Easily available and replaceable if they are conscious.

Interiors and build seems to be good and quality of materials too are above the current standard.

Finally BharatBenz is a full range player. The products are definitely of high quality. The sales figures show that. The tractor trailors are extremely capable and will make the other models in the market to eat dust. Tatas and Leylands will have to do a great job to get the market back.

Ashok Leyland and Tata already have presence in these segments with matching cabins and features. In the CV industry, more than 'Brand Value', its the overload/abuse capability and Fuel Efficiency which matters and the two Indian companies are experts in that game. Bharatbenz dealers are in big financial difficulty partly because of the Industrial slow down and also because the earlier trucks did not meet the tall claims of 10% more fuel efficiency against competition. ALL and Tata are no pushovers whether it be Volvo or Scania or Daimler.
