Lamborghini tractors could soon go on sale in India. The
SAME Deutz-Fahr (SDF) Group which acquired the tractor maker from its famous parent, is studying the Indian market, reports
The Hindu Businessline. The target market for the high end tractors (sold in western markets for more than USD 20,000) will be rich farmers, high profile individuals with agricultural interests, along with golf courses, sports stadiums and premium resorts.
The SDF group in India (source: Hindu Businessline) - The company already makes Lamborghini tractors (around 800 were made last year) at its Ranipet plant in Tamil Nadu for export to markets like Europe and Malaysia.
- The company sold around 2,000 units of its Deutz-Fahr tractors in India, and exported around 4,000 units in 2012.
- The company also makes 15,000 tractor engines in India.
- Key markets are Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Western UP & MP and Punjab.
- High level of localisation with import component of only 10%. MRF tyres and Exide batteries already fitted on the tractors.
- Indian operations account for about 10% (Euro 120 million) of the SDF group's annual sales.
Ferrari tractors will also be sold in India by tractor maker Escorts, in partnership with Italian firm BCS S.p.A. Surprisingly, despite the name Ferrari, these tractors don’t have any link with the famous Italian automaker. The Ferrari tractor manufacturer is based in Luzzara (Italy) and made its first tractor in 1957 called the MC 57. It was acquired by the BCS group in 1988. Escorts will be selling Ferrari's 26 Hp model priced at Rs. 8 Lakh. The tractors will be imported from Italy and assembled in India by Escorts.

Undoubtedly the best looking Tractor I have ever seen, and I really wonder what it would be like to drive one of em too :D
But the actual question that runs through my mind is how many would actually sell here in India.
This will be a hit with the affluent farmers in Punjab. This would be the new style statement among them. The price they are looking at is okay for the cash rich farmers. If marketed well, it will be a hit.
I mean, these guys are already busy jazzing up their tractors with alloys and stuff, Lambo can en-cash this market.:thumbs up
Forget Farms, I would drive one around town as long as it's a Lambo! Jokes apart, as rightly said, it should be a hit with farmers in Punjab and other "green belts". Sadly, my state is going through a draught and this wont find any takers here.
Seriously, this tractor is a looker! I was thinking of buying Duster but this might not be a bad option afterall :D
Jokes apart, if they plan to price it less than 10lakhs INR , i'm it would be a hit in Punjab.
FERRARI TRACTORS are here too to combat Lamborghini :D
Tractor manufacturer Escorts Ltd had inked a partnership with Italian company BCS S.p.A to distribute and sell the speciality Ferrari brand of tractors in India.
Pricing - Rs 8 Lakh only :)
Escorts will initially import the Ferrari tractors from Italy and market them through its distribution channels.
To be brutally honest, I think this is going to be proven a bad decision. Neither is it gonna sell a lot in numbers because, let's face it, there are a lot of cheaper alternatives already in the market and maintaining an Italian farm vehicle isn't exactly gonna be a cakewalk.
But the more serious issue is going to be faced by the car division (which is otherwise doing pretty well). The image crazy Indians will think twice before buying a supercar from a "tractor company". I believe its the same reason the GTR hasn't got much takers in the country despite it being less than half the cost of the Italians, there is no snob value attached to the brand (and yes, no authorized importer or service backup).
The affluent farmers would be driving this all over city to impress. Guess it has AC too.
But not sure if someone would really need these if they are going to do the same things that are already done by our desi ones.

^^ Its like having a good old HMT watch and a Rado or a Reynolds and a Parker.:)
Absolutely the best looking tractor I have ever seen. I can already imagine it making a style statement in, where else, Punjab. :D

Wow. Looks good enough to use as a regular drive in NCR. Few resultant benefits will be that I will be able to say that I own a Lamborghini :D
and it will keep pests on roads away.
Oh boy!! These machines look great :thumbs up
Any idea if this can be bought and registered by the common man for personal use on public roads? The indicative price tag of 10L is way too tempting!
Here's a video of it in action. Looks like the Lambo tractor has a good top end speed too!

Thats one hawt looking tractor! Unlike its road siblings that burn the roads, this will burn the farm!:uncontrol
Wow,this looks awesome, now only if Lamborghini can give an option that lets it transform into a autobot:D
On a serious note,it will sell pretty well at least in Punjab, farmers here run around in swanky cars and SUV's,now if they have the option of a swanky tractor, why not?
First it was the farmers who, because of their vast lands, became instant millionaires with the realty boom. They were the ones who bought luxury and expensive sedans and SUV's left, right and center.
Now it'll be them again buying out Lamborghini's and Ferrari's to till their soils and reap their crops.
The common man dreams on.
