Interiors are classy. Note the heavily reclinable seats and even after reclining, there is ample leg room. The buses have an awesome blue warm lighting and even the floor has fused lighting. Engine noise is extremely low

But the real winner is the Opticruise gear system similar to tiptronic found in higher end cars.

Also note that the bus doesnt have a clutch pedal. There is also no gear lever too

Scanis has given extreme care to safety too

Nice pics. The overall quality looks good. The AC Vents are el cheapo - they wouldn't last the abuse passengers subject it to. Till date the best design for AC vents was that of Volvo - can adjust both direction and volume of air flow.

Are there any window facing air vents? Any pics of the hatrack - showing inside of the racks?

The window facing air vents are the biggest sore feature in Merc buses - hope Scania does not repeat that.

Absolutely loved the design. Thanks a ton Jimmyjosek.
Now there is going to be some competition for Volvo on the looks and aesthetics as well. As earlier Volvo beat Merc hands down in those departments too. Merc in fact feels a ' Jugaad' product and doesn't feel as robust as the Volvo. Now Scania gives me the same European robust build feeling.

Cheers,
Abhijeet

Re: PICS : The Scania Metrolink Bus

Binai, Scania has taken care of the AC vent issue. AC vents are inside the hat rack, so no nuisance to passengers.

Leymama, the bus is leaving for Pune and Ahmednagar tonight for test and approvals. The trials may last upto a month. It will be in and around Pune, Mumbai etc during the period. You can spot it there, if you are lucky!

For one, it seems to be narrower than the Volvos. Dunno if I m right. I could easily spot that the fit and finish is not like the Volvos.

What is the USP of Scania over the Volvos apart from the AT? How do they compare when it comes to prices? What is the claimed FE? Have they bagged any orders so far?

Re: PICS : The Scania Metrolink Bus

The seat looks like the same uncomfortable seats found in some volvo's (same supplier probably). Seat comfort wise i think mercs are better than volvos, but ride quality is a real let down in merc !

Anyone who can comment on the Scania ride quality compared to volvo and merc?

Re: PICS : The Scania Metrolink Bus

Saw them being taken into SRM's depot at Koyambedu Chennai today. Here are two pix shot from my balcony when they were parked inside the SRM depot. Probably they were checking the maneuverability?
Shot two more of the bus' front and side when they were being driven into SRM's depot - will upload them later.

Re: PICS : The Scania Metrolink Bus

scania - i expect the sound insulation & ride quality to be the best in class, since scania are the 'late' entrant into the market & i hope these two are their USP
look wise, excellent (in fact, even the lettering font is top class)
I hope the operators dont kill the elegant lines with mindless stickering all over the place

Re: PICS : The Scania Metrolink Bus

Good pictures Jimmy,

The front end does look butch and seeing these buses in the rear view mirror will definitely yield way! As for the headlamps hope they are a bit sober and don't hit hard to the opposite drivers eye.

In the interiors picture, the instrumentation console I can see a Choke lever but on the switches on the left side top most second one is Choke as I can see. Then what is the lever for?

Just below the steering wheel there is a lock/unlock button. What is that for now? How did you find the quality of plastics, fit and finish as compared to the Volvo 9400?! Regarding the sound and insulation I feel it would be same the Mercedes-Benz sounds harsher and stressed as compared to the Volvo!

Waiting to see the clash of titans on the road. Volvo 9400 (Multi-Axle) and the Scania!

Anurag.

Re: PICS : The Scania Metrolink Bus

Thanks Jimmy for the pics. This bus, I reckon, is the potential game changer in a market saturated by Volvo. A couple of observations from the pics:

1. That Scania fire dragon motif at the rear end is a nice design touch. Not sure if it'll make it into the production livery though.

2. Very thoughtful of Scania to provide a black engine hatch door. This hatch is a potential soot/grime/dust receiver from the engine bay and this blacked out door will be good at masking it.

3. Do I see a reverse camera housing at the top in the 3rd pic? If true, that's a segment first, innit?

If I was in the transport business, I'm queueing up for one these! In fact my USP on the ads and ticket will be, "Scania Metrolink AC". Looks like SRM are the first testers.

Volvo and Merc already have it as an optional fitting. Irizar-TVS also offers the rear camera in the iT09 body as an optional accessory.
