Not sure if this is the right thread to post this.

On Saturday (12.12.2015), enroute to Mumbai, at Vashi Toll Plaza, saw this bus.

Apart from an eye catching yellow colour, the following features stood out -

1. Left hand drive - obviously not meant for Indian roads

2. A warning sign - Arabic / Urdu? Definitely meant for export?

3. Auxiliary engine on the left side

4. Unusual window panes - more like those on sleeper coaches on inter city travel buses.

It looked like coaches used for airport transfer.

Just sharing for those are likely to be interested....Attachment 1450161

That's TML 's LHD AC School bus built on LPO 1618/62 Chassis with an auxiliary AC engine for Dubai Market on its way to Mumbai BPT for shipment from their exports yard at Rasayani, Raigad.
Its an ACGL fabricated bus .

This one is called Elanza and is based on 1618 and is meant for Dubai School bus market. This was launched in Bus World Mumbai.

Nothing unusual about the windows. School buses almost world wide have fixed glass in lower 2/3rd, and sliding glass in upper 1/3rd for ventilation in case of Ac failure. This arrangement is made so that visiblity from windows is better with less inturuption, and children can not put their hands out of the windows.

A new model, LPO 1515C was launched recently with few deliveries happening in Southern States and North West. Available in one wheel base for now, might get into various options based on market response and requirement.

So its only now Viking has a competition from Tata? It took so much beating to get this model.Effectively Tata was moving down with 1512, and market share was getting reduced YoY.

To me it only looks like a more powerfull engine on the old 1512/ 1612 LPO 55 chassis.
The Wheelbase and Front Overhang are the same as is the final drive of 37/7.
Use of 10.00-20 instead of 9.00-20 tyres will push up top governed speed from 87 to 89 kph.

I thought the top governed speed is 80 kmph ( with standard tyres ) as mandated by govt. ? Isn't it ?

No there is no such mandate. In previous years governments were mandating locking RPM at lower speeds, but this was declaired il-legal by Chandigarh High court (cases where MSRTC bus with locked engine chartered for college excurtion rolled back in Himachal) and upheld by the Supreme court. Now with ECU based control on engines, state govts can mandate governing RPM only in top gear at a speed they desire which is above 60kph, but below 120 kph. Such governing in old generation vehicles is not allowed, nor is it allowed for new generation vehicles.
Note that top geared speed is actually geared speed at RPM where peak power is generated, Cummins engines are rated ar 2500 RPM, but actually redline at 2800 RPM.

For refering top geared speed click link and enter specifications http://www.buses.tatamotors.com/prod...-1512-bs3.aspx

Need to wait and see whether it turns to be a worthy competition for Viking. Looks like they have delivered few 1515c chassis to some of the private operators in TN. One such bus (might be the first LPO 1515c stage carriage in TN) is posted below. Photo Courtesy: Respective Owner (Sakkarai Nathan in FB).

The first LPO 1515 sold in Kerala state, for contract carriage operation.
This bus is equipped with AC (direct engine driven).

The bus (chassis) mentioned on the first post of this thread has been replaced by a new LPO 1515C TATA.
Being a new model from TATA, need to wait and see how good/bad the performance is.
For now, few pictures from Chassis to body building to final complete bus.

Can 1515TC with engine driven AC run for intercity ops

Post #280 on this page has a contract carriage built on 1515c chassis that has an engine driven AC.

Thanks Vikram

Can the top speed and mileage and seating capacity match viking 222? Price of the chassis? Does Prakash does coach for this chassis?

Can't comment on the top speed and mileage for now since this model is relatively new compared to 160HP Viking.
There are different wheel base options available, hence seating capacity can be matched to 222 Viking if the right option is selected.
Please contact your nearest dealer, there was some introductory offer (very good deals) on this model.
Prakash has been building bodies on 1512 and 1618, so 1515 wouldn't be a problem (probably they would have built on this chassis by now).
