JBL or Sony Amp?!!!!

Hey guys, i currently have a sony XM-ZR6042 4ch amp in my scorpio. I have already bought a JBL GT5-S644 amp for the car "assuming" JBL would be better than sony.

Now, i am not into all the technicalities of an amp, but when i did a quick research on their websites, i found out that the Sony amp SEEMS to be more powerful than the JBL. Here are the specifications-

JBL:
100W RMS x 4 Channels at 4 Ohms & 150W RMS x 4 Channels at 2 Ohms

Sony:
• Maximum Output Power: 4 Ch x 110W at 4ohm
• Maximum Output Power: 2 Ch x 150W at 2ohm + 1 Ch x 300W at 4ohm
• Rated Output Power: 4 Ch x 60W at 4 ohm(1.0% THD)
• Rated Output Power: 4 Ch x 130W at 4 ohm (0.1% THD)
• Rated Output Power: 3 Ch x 130W at 4 ohm (0.1% THD)

Since i am not really an expert in understanding all these, can someone please tell me which one is actually better of the two?

When you compare RMS output of both the amplifiers, The JBL is a better choice. The RMS output power for the sony amp is 60W @ 4 Ohms while the JBL is 70W @ 4 Ohms

is that a typo? the specs seem funny. JBL has not specified what % THD the power was measured at. Without knowing that, the comparison is incomplete

Both specs are incomplete. Most published specs are. I prefer to use my ears to distinguish the better amp.

60W vs 70W is a difference of less than 1db which to our hearing is barely perceptable. This is not to be confused as a 1db difference in the frequency response which (at least between 250hz and 4kHz) is very perceptable.

Listen to both.

I'm not an expert too, but reading all the ICE threads here I think it's safe to assume that any product of JBL is better than the equivalent Sony product.

Arey baba, Just listen na. I am sure you will be surprised at what your ears tell you. Trust me any ear can tell differences. I know friends who are tone deaf who can tell the diffrence, it is just that they never tried to before.

From my experience I can say u can skip the Sony, ABSOLUTELY skip it. I have not yet met anyone who has heard both (who has some clue about good sound) and liked the Sony better than the S644 JBL.

Point to be noted

[quote=greenhorn;1751400]is that a typo? the specs seem funny. JBL has not specified what % THD the power was measured at. Without knowing that, the comparison is incomplete[/QUO

The relationship between THD and wattage is linear that is a higher THD% = higher rms.....
