what I am saying is that you dont need to run the speakers at 12V (36W at 4 ohms) to test. a few watts is fine. 36W rms is loud!

50Hz and 1kHz are pretty normal freq to use. I would consider 50, 400, 1K, and 5 or 6K to cover the full range. In the old days MOL used to be calibrated using a 400Hz siganl but you dont have MOL today (no tapedecks).
U mean to say that i have to record sound at all these freq and set gain for that each freq?

And thanx for explaining ur previous post in simple way.I got it all now.

for setting gain a standard 400Hz would be adequate for the front and rear. i would not suggest 1k as even a 2.5k crossover would have some efect at that freq. for the sub you would need 50Hz or 60hz.

multiple freq. are used only to tinker with. you will notice that once gain is set at 400hz you wont change it much if the freq is 1k or 5K. but it is nice for academic purposes to hear if the levels are ok across most of the freq. spectrum.

Navin,as u seems to be relatively free these days[looking at ur replies] and that ur in good humour ,i have been encouraged to ask few more questions.....here i go......

1.As i can set xover settings from my HU,[and this wud act as active Xover i believe],shud i also set Xover on amplifier?? I read JB advising this somewhere. If yes, what shud be the settings on both,HU & amp?

2.i know all abt equalizer but nothing abt parametric EQ.What shloud be its settings??
I read somewhere that wrong parametric EQ settings can damage tweeters.

3.Whats the best place for crossover of front components? Can i wrap it with plastic/polyethese bag[ read it also somewhere] ?

Guess you'll have to be very careful about what they do to your car.

To be very frank, in Punjab, I've seen cars getting installed for the same or even lesser amounts...
Trust Me...!!!

But then, for that kind of install, you will see cut, spliced wires, absolutely no use of connectors, wires are joined and taped up with the black electical purpose tapes, the installers will be absolutely murderous to your equipement using force push pull etc. to get things in place....

this is just the tip of the iceberg.
I have seen these horror stories happen a lot.

And TRUST ME, even at the dealership, the installer will just be a monkey with a hand drill and screwdriver, waiting for his next bakra.

In my opinion, buying all this good and expensive equipement and getting it installed from here will be absurd and downright stupid.
You will better off doing a DIY job at home...

1. use only the XO on the HU or the amp. using both might create all sorts of issues with phase response etc... the Alpine HU has a decent XO so use that this way you can adjust it while in the car

2. a parametric EQ is one that allows hyou to adust all 3 parameters of an EQ: Band width (Q), gain, freq. tweeters can get damanged only if crossed over too low and at too low a slope. however unless your tweeters are active, the passive filters that come with your tweeters will protect them.

3. I tuck them under the dash with blu tack.I had

I make time. It is 11:18 PM Sunday and I have been up since 6:17am.

the pics are not clear but check the crossover. you will see terminals marked for the amp, tweeter and woofer. in fact you will see a spare terminal marked for the tweeter that is used to reduce the level of the tweeter.

If you can take a pic of the speaker and post it and we can work from that.
