This seems like a feasible idea. Seriously worth considering I should say. But is the reflected sound as good as direct sound?

What are the choices I have in 5.25 inch midbasses?

I think you can avoid the stock location completely. Get a set of 5.25'' compos and mount the tweater on the dash, facing towards you....

The idea seems good. This way I can still keep my 426 and improve the sound too. The Alto doors are too thin to hold a 5 or 6 inch midbass. The door certainly needs some strengthening.

I know. But I already have the 426 and 936 coaxials. What will I do with the 426s.

JBL, Alpine, Blaupunkt, etc....almost everyone makes a 5-6" component.

not really. what you can do is use the midbass as a bass driver, then use the tweeter of the component set as the tweeter with the 426 in the dash. the tweeter of teh 426 can be taken out of ckt. this way you get teh tweeter facing you limits some of the off axis issues you face at higher frequencies.

But I still have to buy a pair of midbasses, right? And how do I remove the tweeters?

The 426 tweeter is angled Navin (though fixed). It can be turned towards the driver.

Wait for my surprise Navin, you will love it.

since the 426's tweeter can be angled towards the listeners (note I did not say driver), vivek you have 2 options.

1. use the 426 tweeter and keep the component tweeter as a spare.
2. use the component tweeter. then fire the 426 tweeter towards the windscreen. and cross the 426 tweeter with a 1mfd cap so that is only operates in the extreme highs. this might work as a rear tweeter used in some home speakers in the days gone by.

vivek, dont worry abot having 2 drivers operating in the 10Hz+ band (both tweeters) if you use option 2 above.

reason: the impedance curve of tweeters tend to rise as the freq.goes up. this is true of most moving coil transducers. by using 2 tweeters the impradance of both in parallel at say 15K will be about 2.8-3 ohms not 2 ohms as you might have feared.

How will it be if I just buy a pair of tweeters, disconnect the 426 tweets and use the new pair which will be fixed on the dash and firing towards the listeners? Or will the addition of a midbass (new component speaker set) give me a lot of sound improvement? Remember, we need to keep the expenditure as low as possible.

Sam, how do you angle the 426 tweeter towards the listener?
