well SM if u really need the casette and cd player that desperately then what i would suggest is go in for a sony casette player and buy a sony casette-cd connector..its pretty cheap costs about 300 and run the cds from a discman if u have one..if not buy a good one with B&W..that way u can listen to cds not only on ur car but everywhere u go u can carry ur discman along..its sounds good too as i had tried it on an alpine HU in a skoda 1.9tdi...or else get a pioneer casette with a 10 cd changer(audio no mp3 i suppose) or get a sony casette player and a sony changer..sam ur inputs to this..

Looks like Sony HU with Sony Cd changer is the only alternative. Or is there another?
I don't know if I'd get flamed for this suggestion, but take others input on this and then go ahead.

My friend has understood that Alpine HU is amazing and he has a used Pioneer HU, a new Sony Mp3 Hu and a Sony Casette player, unused.... He is selling all of them to buy an Alpine 9826, which costs 11.Xk here in Chennai. You can cross check with navin with respect to how good the Alpine really is. He has been using them from a long long time... Stone age, really..!

I don't know what your budget it... Sorry if the suggestions does not suit...

an alpine HU and changer combo will likely cost more than 20K. maybe even 25K. like my dad used to say the best things in life are free but the good things are damn expensive. :-)

As far as I remember the setups posted for your cars had none of these? It was sony in One, and JBL in another. Or am I missing something?
SM, I had asked my cousin to bring these from States, but he was unable to bring them. So I went ahead and bought JBL speakers and Sony HU.
I will be adding a 4 channel amplifier and sub soon.

mmmmmmmmmm!!! Tempting me to chuck the cassette deck and go just for the Alpine MP3 player- Both you and Ajay.

But no!! What would i do of the lovely Pakistani Ghazals I have on the casette deck in original voices of farida khanum, begum akhtar, Abida Parveen, Mehdi Hassan Jagjit and all....and other commentaries that i listen to?

I paid a visit to the authorised Alpine dealer in Hyderabad Moto Axis on Minister Road and the guy said sony cassette and CD changer would be best for my budget. ONe year free repair for the CD changer if anything goes wrong - and this without Bill or Warranty.

But the guy put me in a speaker quandry - suggested I go for Alpines instead of JBL.

His setup
1) Sony Cassette Deck+CD changer = Rs. 11,750/- Dealer Warranty
2) Alpine SPS-130A 5" 2 ways front - 2750/- with B&W
3) Alpine 690A 6"X9" in rear Parcel tray - Rs. 5000/- with B&W
4) Sony 504 amp Rs. 4500/- Dealer warranty.

Total Cost - 24,000/-

What I had in mind was

1) Sony Cassette Deck+CD changer = Rs. 11,750/- Dealer Warranty
2) JBL 606 c compos Rs. 6000/- B&W
3) JBL 936 6"X9" in rear Parcel tray - Rs. 4750/- with B&W
4) Sony 504 amp Rs. 4500/- Dealer warranty.

Total Cost = Rs. 27,000/-

Another suggestion if I had budget was Alpine compos instead of JBL. says Alpine will sound better than JBL.

He deals in JBL,Alpine,Boston and other brands.

What do you think is better Alpine speakers or JBL?

I'm going to his showroom tomorrow at 11:00AM to finally have my system installed . Need the Forces to guide before that.

OTOH, what you can do, SM, is buy the 9826 for 11.Xk [or a cheaper Alpine Hu if available] and wait for sometime and then get an Ipod or some other hard disk mp3 player and connect it to your HU... IMHO, cd hangers are not worth anymore, since you have these players around offering larger storage capacities...

Is this a good suggestion, Navin??

But if your too sure you'd want to retain the sony, it should be a good option too... But since you're already aware that Sony has lens problem, why take a chance??

hey man that setup sounds pretty good to me..well one thing to keep in mind is u got to decide whether u want to go for the JBL 606ce or the 936 at the rear..the 936 will give u better bass than the 606s but the 606s will give u better clarity..i suggest u go for the 606s as the bass will be provided by the sub so ditch the 636 or the 936s for the rear..use ur HU,the 426s & 606s will be connected to ur pioneer amp,the sub(preferably the JBL gto 1000b or the cs 1200t,depending on whether u want a box or a tube sub) will be powered by the sony 502z..thats a good setup and go ahead with it without thinking much..

Auto Bahn

Sam, Navin n Aseem,

I got my 9833 and the alpine R series components fitted in my scorpio today and they rock.........However, the owner in Ludhiana is a friend of mine and he gifted me with a Auto Bahn 12" woofer which has a 8"dia magnet and the mag is about 2"in thickness and that guy has about 100 pieces of that stuff with him lying idle. He has tried to run this woof with mostly all the amps but after about 3-4 minutes the amp. clips and the woof dies and now he has challenged me to find a Amp. which can drive this helluvva woof......... help...I will post the pics soon.....Sam PM me ur Email id I will send u the pics of the woof.

For Rs 6000 you can easily get a JBL 12 in ch 1200D (dual coil subwoofer) Subwoofer and you can mount it in a box.

Buff, the Blankpunt subwoofer in a customer enclosure would be better than a JBL subwoofer with a local box.

I think it also depends on the series. My freind has Alpine R series components in his car, and they rock. So in my humble opinion, Alpine components are better than JBL components!
