The reason I m going for the tube is that its got 140W RMS and the 1200B has 250W RMS. So since my amp only gives 120W in bridged mode, I wont be able to drive the 1200B, as opposed to the tube. If I go with 1200B I would have to worry about clipping.

ok after i got my setup a friend of mine was really impresssed with the jbl's in the rear and has requested my assistance in getting one for himself.

unfortunately his budget is only 10k and has narrowed down upon a jvc head unit.model no. is kd-xxxx(similar to mine) and wants to put jbl gto 936e in the rear and leave the speakers he has at present oin the front.i think he said they are alpine 20 w speakers peak power 60 w.

the hu and the rears are costing him 9800 and hes very happy with that but wnats to know how it will sound with the not so good alpines in the front and one of the entry level jvc hu.

vivek. if you want to put a TL in your car you better give up all your trunk space. i had this in a contessa and sacrificed all ym trunck save room for a igloo. the contessa was not used for any other purpose but for my night drives. i used a 800 and later a zen to go to work.

The TL was using 3 10" woofers. and lots of wood work. the were wired in parallel so had an nominal impedance of 2.8 ohms (8/3). The woofers were made by me at a friends factory. i think they rest can be taken offline unless more than vivek want to know about this.

aseem, you dont have worry about the power handling of a speaker. if you got a 100W rms amp and a speaker capable to absoring 300W there will be NO problem. what you should chek for are the following.
1. sensitivity of the speaker usually rated something like 90db/1W/1m
2. freq curves at 1W, 10W, 20W, 50W, ... trust me they change.
3. Xmax of woofer (in this case your JBL sub).
4. Distortion curves of speaker (rarely available) but the above 3 will give oyu a fair idea of this.

say you 100W. your speaker is 90db/1w. at 10W your speaker will be producing 100db. at 20W 103db. etc... (it is a log scale). Now 100db is quite loud. 110d is dangerous. and for long term listening 95db can be hazardous. I feel I am repeating myself. Have i said this before?

if you guys want more fo this info, scream; or else if aseem wants to know more PM me so we can take this offline and not create tech-noise for the rest.

Stick to the sub you like best. My bet is 140W will drive them both well. No harm liking a tube I got 2 tubes in my octy but my constraints dictated tubes. If was single I might have done something drastic (like horn loaded sub in car!).

rev, I would always suggest that the front speakers be better than the rears. can he replace the front speakers and use the existing front speakers for the rear (check mounting holes)?

the front speakers are the small 4 inch round ones and he like a lot of bass and thats why he wants the 936 in the rear as front speakers wont give excellent bass like the 936.is that true??

well if he likes bass why not add a sub? what is his speaker budget?

the 936 will drown out the 4" and his soundstage will come from the rear.

he gathered up all the money he could from his savings and that comes upto 8 and he can manage 2 from some where or that other so his budget for everything including head unit is only 10 grand cannot exceed that at all. and hence there is no way he can get a sub.

the difference in Signal to noise Ratio is quite high..JBLs dont distort even at high volume while the same cant se said of the Sony Combo.. On the other hand, his fronts are not powered (he uses only one amp to power rear and sony sub) so maybe that explains a bit of the soundstage difference.

On the other hand..sony is faaaar cheaper...so good value for the money you pay...but even with the subwoofer off...the JBL 936 in rear and 606 CE front components that are powered by this cs 50.4 amp provide awesome sound....!!!!
Phew! After counting and recounting every rupee left from my budget, I'm somehow going to get the JBL 50.4 4 Channel amp.... Can't be happier... Need some quality stuff to go with the speakers...

Navin, sam, do you agree with this to be a sensible choice?? One last time, please guide...

Navin, as it is my Alto has no space at the back. A TL sub would probably not fit in at all.

mclaren, where can I buy the 504 for 3.9K? Please give me some details. I see that the inbuilt amp in my Pio 5750 is not doing any justice to the JBL speakers I have.

You can buy the 504Z from any shop in JC road or SP road. The least price I have come accross is 3.9k and most will start at 4.2k.

ok guys have a question for u all..it might sound silly but here it goes..well we have all kind of cars in india from hatchbacks, sedans, mpvs, suvs and luxury cars..well what are the things one has got to keep in mind while installing an audio system to any of these cars..is there any particular setup for a particular car like a hatch or an suv etc..i mean a system we use in a hatch might not give the same effect on an suv..yet i have seen advises from our experts to go in for that setup that was advocated for a hatch and when an enquiry regarding an suv(scorpio, innova or a qualis to be precise, cant call them suvs but the kind) comes the very same setup is advocated as that on the hatch..is this advisable..well is there any rule which states that the distance of the speakers(say front and back)should be specifically at a particular distance apart to prevent interference btwn the two..or that a speaker should be placed at a particular distance away from the human ear in order for the ear to pick up each sound distinctly..might sound silly but had this doubt hovering for a long time and so thought i would finally post it..so guys ur views on this..cant help ..but felt its better to clear any doubts that i have..(courtesy my school teachers who always made it a point to we'd ask doubts however small they are) and as 1 knows old habits die hard..
