Hello guys,

Im getting my ride within the next week. It will be an 800 or an alto.

I am a huge fan of megaBass but i agree that too much bass is not feasible in my budget.
I want a budget system of 10k. My only requiremnets are

1. A head unit with usb and bluetooth connectivity
2. Good bass support in the head unit
3. Speakers for the rest of the money

Budget is strict and so i want a system that gives me maximum bass o/p for the price.
Also please suggest the better brand of head unit among sony, pioneer, etc

10K....hmm...do you mind if the sound only comes from the rear. If you are ok with that then spend 6K on a HU and 4K on a pair of 6x9 from JBL, GZ, etc...you can add a pair of front speakers later.

You will get bass, you will sacrifice imaging.

What are the high level features that i need to look for in a 'performing head unit'. Based on my recent ICE experience, a 'performing head unit' needs to have atleast
1. 4v preouts / preins
2. TA
3. usb / ipod interfaces

Anything else? my knowledge in ICE is very limited.

I am planning to source a HU from usa and any inputs would be very useful

Hi Gurus,
have 2 questions here..
1. Generally directed to you Navin, You always seem to mention that 10-20% of one icing budget should go towards damping systems. Now could you throw some light on what is the damping system, what are its components? Was trying to read up on it and I could only find is about the damping factor. I have a feeling you are talking about something different here.
2. I need an amp to power my woofer for now till the 5 channel amp arrives. Currently have a 4 channel powering all the speakers. Now my question is, would a 2 channel do the job. Navin, i did read the detailed explanation you had given on the difference between the mono and a 2 channel used to power a woofer.
I do understand that a mono is recommended among the 2. Now, would the output from the mono be better than what i can get out of a 5 channel.
Also having 2 amps would that not be too much load on the poor little battery (have a ohc).
Thanks a lot in advance.

Peace,
Souvik.

Why do you want a pre in? USB is adequate. 4V preout is fine.

Today I would like to get Bluetooth (so my mobile calls come through), 24 bit Burr Brown DAC (bypass the ipod DAC), and ALAC playback (one can wish can't one?).

Budget about $200 for HUs with this (dont know about ALAC though). Most of these HUs have a BT (for bluetooth) sufffix or prefix in their model name like Pioneer 6200BT or Kenwood BT645. For under $300 you can get the Kenwood X994 (I've seen it on sale for $250).

If you want a Double DIN HU with all of these features expect to pay upwards of $500 - some time back someone postead about the Clarion 709 on TBHP - search TBHP and you will find it.

ou should have checked BEFORE you made your purchase. One option might be to get an adapter ring made.
