Basic Sub and amp for existing OE audio setup

This is my very first attempt at doing up the audio in my Maruti Astar Vxi which has a factory fitted basic audio head unit with front 2 speakers only. I had thoughts of adding two - 6" speakers from JBL at the rear but now I'm thinking to add a sub and an amp instead. I came across this thought as
1) Getting bugged with the sissy setup currently (IMHO)
2) 75% of the time there would be just 2 people in the car and it makes sense to invest in a sub rather than the speakers at the rear.

I'm thinking a budget of around 10k (amp+sub+wiring) would be sufficient to get me good bass. My knowledge on car audio is very naive I should say, I would like to know your inputs with regards to the make/model/price of various basic subs and amps in Bengaluru.

With whatever R&D i could do over the net feel i could get JBL CS 1205 for about 4500/- with B&W, I suppose. Is there anything else apart form JBL which is worth having a look? As far as the amp is concerned im starting off on a fresh page. I have no clue with regards to the ohm values, mono, 2 channel, 4 channel or whatever!

Please enlighten!

Some installers can do a good job but most butcher the car.

The JBL CS1215 is a decent SVC 4 ohm subwoofer. you can even power it from a simple 2 ch amp that can be bridged into 1 channel like the Sony 552 whihc is available for 3K or so.

Hi all, I'm a complete noob when it comes t audio systems. I needed a little basic help. I have a baleno altura running jbl components upfront(i'm not sure about the model number, shall check and let you know) and jbl 638's at the rear. The rear speakers are placed in the boot and hence the sound doesn't really travel upfront. The front speakers seem t outpower the one's at the back by quite a margin.

Would a 2channel amp powering the rear speakers be the solution, please assist me, I'd also like t spend as little as possible, what model would be good etc ?

Thanku.

Edit: system is pioneer 5050ub, I don't need any bass hence no subwoofer.

I assume the rear speakers are placed on the rear deck and not in the boot. If they are indeed placed in the boot take them out and place them on the rear deck.

You can use the fader and fade the sound to the rear. If that does not help a 2 or 4 channel amp will help. a good 4 ch. amp will cost you about 6-7K, you will need to spend about 2K on RCA wires and 1K for the install. So budget 10K for the amp and install.

Hi all,

How does the Eclipse 5030 fair when compared against the Clarion DXZ785USB and Kenwood X993 (in terms of SQ, functionality, features) ?

Has anybody tried this HU before ?

cheers!

You said it, Navin!

The real problem is that Santro dash has 1DIN space allocated, with AC vents just above it, and airflow / AC control levers and fan knob just below it. If one tries to do any modification to these (there is space below the dash which can be used to relocate the levers and knobs), it is not an easy job and even experienced installers will butcher it!

A close alternative is 1DIN HUs with motorized screen. In this case, part of the AC vent will be blocked by the screen in the open position.

New system not sounding good

Hi Gurus,

I have recently replaced the stock HU of my i20 with Pio 2 din 6050UB and the front comps to GTO 608c.
But the problem is the rich bass I was getting with the stock system seemed to have disappeared.
The system seems to be out of sync.

When I played music from my mp3 player from the Aux in port of stock system it plyed really nice, now the same is not sounding good from the Pio HU.
What could be the problem? Bad install or some tuning?
Also the HU has 2 pre outs,so can I directly connect a sub without a amp?

Thanks again.

I have used the 6020 and 6010 and they are decent products. However it is best you hear the products and decide for yourself.

The proof of the pudding is in the listening.

Check speaker phase and install (no backwave). Set HPF on XO to -6db.

JBL GTO are known to be forward but they are capable of abss too.
