Most gurus here will not recommend Sony speakers and there are better speakers than Pioneer too. In your budget think JBL, Blaupunkt, Bull Audio etc..

there are a lot of fake pioneer speakers ( and the originals don't sound too good anyway )
Pio HU's are fine, but speakers ? nah!

Today I have done the ICEing of my Ritz Vdi. I have visited almost all the shops in and near Vashi. Though Gurus doesn't recommend Sony speakers as well as little sceptical about Sony HU, but after searching in the market I lost my confidence on the shops as market is full of grey market stuff. In case of Sony I was getting box pack current product and B&W. Before installation I had a demo of the speakers and found the quality is not that bad and everything was well within my budget. So I'm happy.

HU - Sony CDX-GT696UI
Front USB, Aux-In, Made for iPod and works with iPhone. 3 audio preouts (F, R and Sub out). Max power output 52W X 4 (@ 4 ohms). Can play MP3, WMA, AAC formats. Two colours illumination - Blue and Green.
MRP - Rs. 9900/-. Two years warranty.

Speakers - Sony XS-GT69402 (16 cm) for all four doors
Coaxial 4 way: Woofer 16 cm cone type, Midrange 3.5 cm B.D type, Tweeter 1.1 cm dome type, Super tweeter 0.8 cm dome type. Max. Power 300 W, Rated impedance 4 ohms, weight ~ 860 gms per speaker.
MRP - Rs. 3490/- for a pair. One year warranty.
Got a good deal of Rs. 14000/- for the whole package (HU - Rs. 8100/-, 4 Speakers - Rs. 5900/-)

Performance - Mainly I heard Bollywood songs, some instrumentals with good bass and FM. I'm satisfied with the quality of sound at low as well as high volume. Will post some pictures tomorrow.

@ mailmaldi. stick around while they are installing stuff. make sure they dont cut any wires/break/damage anything. Ensure that the installers use a wiring harness, and make it clear to the installer that you dont want to cut anything, and that you will be watching. You may have to fork out a bit extra ( for the wiring harness etc)

Though there is a thread I opened for explicit requirement but thought to specific query here.

I wanted to go for GTO 1214 (1400W, Rs 5.5K) Sub but as its not available so dealer suggested me to buy GT5 1204BR (1100W, Rs 8K) Sub. I have JBL 1004 Amp which currently supporting comp 608c and other 2 channels are available for Sub.

For time being dealer suggested to use GT5 1204BR (obviously I paid for it) till he arrange GTO 1214 (he said he will try but don't want to commit). He will take back GT5 1204BR after few days if I don't want to go with it.

What you recommend?

I was looking at the specificatons of some speakers & under the heading Thermal Protection I found HALO + PTC. What do the terms HALO & PTC mean? Googling didn't help. Some of the speakers had only PTC under the same heading.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Take the 2190 an use the extra 500 to get some damping done. Even a little bit of damping in the doors helps a lot.

a decent amp will cost about 6-7K so unless you have the budget for that (plus for RCA cable etc..) you can alwasy add that later.

for about 7K you can get 4 JBL GT5 or Bull Audio 6" coax speakers for the front and rear. Just stay away from Sony etc.. stick to a company that does speakers well.

Ok before you laugh this is a genuine query.

I am not asking it to be used a full range but only for Mid Bass

Say I want a Front only setup & want good bass & my car's door's cant accommodate an 8 inch mid bass which is both big & expensive.

Now theoretically a 6X9 has effective surface area of an 8 inch woofer.

So if it is fed the right set of frequency wouldn't this save both space & money?

The only constraint I can think of is that most if not all 6X9s are designed for bigger enclosures(Boot) which it might not get in the door.

Is this the only limiting reason or is there more to it?
