Car- yet to be decided but ICE can be a major factor in the decision.

Budget- 25-30K.

needs-

A BT and USB enabled HU
A 5 channel AMP ( to swap with the soundstream 4channel in my lancer)
Front 2-way components (size which fits most cars while sounding awesome)
Rear 3 way co-axials 6X9
Amplifier wiring (what's the best available?)

I am in Toronto right now and will be vising US in a week. If available I will get something from here.

1. You mean "on". right?
2. where did you buy the amp (dealer) and where did you get it installed. THat is the first person I would contact.
3. JBL is represented in India by Sahil International.
Warranty, Service and Repair FAQ
SAHIL INTERNATIONAL Mumbai +91-22-30080830/40/50 +91-22-300 80858

4. IF (and only IF) all of the above fails send a PM to Sam Kapasi with details (model number, serial number, date of purchase, dealer's name, etc..).

I'd recommend only getting the HU and amp from the US. THe rest is way too bulky. Also with all the features you want your budget will only cover the amp and HU. HUs with USB+BT cost 15K+ and 5 ch. amps cost over 20K in India.

In the US things are a bit cheaper. For example ...
HUs under 12K ($250)
Kenwood Excelon X993
Pioneer P6100BT
Kenwood BT742U or BT8044
Alpine CDE 103BT

Amps under 15K ($300)
Infinity Reference 5350a
JBL GTO-5535
Blaupounkt THA 555
DLS DA 50/51

I have not seen components for less than 5.5K (I think the JBL GT5 are about the cheapest I have seen). Also I am not sure if there are any 6K HUs that offer front pre out (most HUs that offer front pre out offer front and rear pre out). In the US you can get a HU for about $120 that has 4 pre outs but I have nto seen any in India. Most 4 pre out HU are above 7K at the recognised shops.
JVC KD-HDR20 CD receiver at Crutchfield.com
Pioneer DEH-P3100UB CD receiver at Crutchfield.com

With a budget of 22K he could get
HU (7K) with front and rear pre outs
4 ch. Amp (6K) - the Blau GT4 special sells for 6K in Mumbai
Front components (5.5K)
Rear Coax (3.5K)

As you can see there are differenet opinions for the same budget. Neither is wrong or right.

Discalimer: I have many friends (both in India and outside) for whom Audio is a livelihood. For this reason alone I cannot recommend the grey market. I have seen many of my friends who offered honest service and put in hard work to build a brand only to loose it all to the grey market operators (in India, the Middle East and even in Singapore and Thailand).
Hi
Thanks for the reply abhinav.gupta88 and Navin!

I was reading a 'caution' post about the ICE forum... that eventually your budgets would keep sooting up, and i can experience the same here!

15K is my ideal budget, but if it would 'really' make the difference i'd have to go in for that, since i would be looking for the 'quality' of sound more than anything else and hence can compromise on features like ipod compatibility etc... ( i have a herman kardon amp with JAMO 5.1 speakers at my home, which i again bought with an oveshot budget!)

I wish i posted this query earlier navin, since i was in US last week! would try and search for the TWO HU links that you've given though here in mumbai. Please let me know a good dealer/ source where i can experience the same in case you know of.

One more question, though i read it's more advisable to go for the MDF boards for the rear speakers, would you think the Existing Plastic plate provided in GP should be good enough for fitting the speakers? ( The rear doors have also got the provision for speakers)

Cheers

Ameet

I can only carry the HU from US. Also I am fine with a 4-channel amp. Can I fit it all in the budget if I get a 4-ch amp?

HU: 15K
Amp: 7K
Speakers: 6K for components, 5K for 6x9 = 11K

Since you want USB and BT get the HU+speakers and add the amp when you have the budget.

Hello team ,

Iam looking for a 4ch amp in the 20-25k range. The amp will be used to power only the speakers ..

I really liked the HK amp that a few fellow members have got , but I want to know the other options in this price range ..

Thank you.
Cheers !!

Ummm , i'm not sure you'll get good 4 channel amps in that budget.
I'll suggest you the HK CA470 only.
It's really amazing and is really clean. It'll work brilliantly with the illusions.
Perfect sweet sounding.

Bluetooth HU - Availability and Sub-woofer driven from HU

Hello All,

Booked a Scorpio SLE, expect that to arrive by the end of the week.

Want to install ICE. I have gone through a number of discussion threads on the team-bhp site. Kind of fine tuning of the below setup

MP3 HU with USB and BT capability
Front components
Rear co-axials
Single Sub-woofer driven by the HU

Not decided on the brands yet.

Now to my questions
1. I checked out for bluetooth HU in pioneer, blaupunkt and alpine with the dealer (Sireesh auto, Hebbal, Bangalore) and at Auto Grid (shop in Bangalore north). But both seem to have the opinion that they are not (that freely !!!) available. Is this the case? I also heard that Indian driving laws do not allow the use of phone during driving not even the BT head-set or BT car modules, Is this right?http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/images/smilies/Please.gif

2. If I drive the sub-woofer directly from the HU, how will the performance be. I am on a tight budget (20K) hence trying to avoid the Amp, as I really need the BT capability.

help

Regards
Shabash

But then, I guess you're entitled to it once in a while!

I guess he meant to say- I can't figure out much from this, why do we really need such pictures and how good or bad does it seem to be, to THE gurus?

Pictures at best wil tell you about the build quality and maybe the quality of some of the parts used. To determine the efficacy of a design you need a detailed circuit diagram (preferably with test voltages and currents highlighted). To determine if it sounds good you need to hear it.

Listening the the only test I understand/recognise. The Gurus might argue otherwise but I am old and obstinate.

I am older, obstinater and of the same view!

Arre nahin, Mathur-sab, I think Devarshi's question was quite simply that - what is where on the board. Ae Devarshi-bahi, wasn't this your koshchen? (Kidhar gaya?)
