Upgrade part deux

I upgraded the ICE setup in my Swift yesterday. Here is what I have now:

HU: Pioneer 4050
Fronts: Illusion Electra 6.1 components (upgraded yesterday)
Rear: JBL 937 on a MDF tray
Amp: JBL 1004 (added new)
Wiring: ground zero and monster

Got the install done from FM Drive (Pankaj Bhai).

While tuning the system, the shortcomings of the rears became quite apparent. I dont know if they are defective or are designed that way but the bass was a bit too loose (as if the speakers couldnt quite handle the power). Pankaj Bhai tuned the system so that the overall sound stage sounds quite good, but I cant help feeling that a better rear solution is warranted.

Would appreciate some inputs on what to install in the rear in lieu of the JBL 937's:
a) a new pair of 6x9's? If so which ones?
b) a Sub. If so which one and what type of install? would like to retain as much boot space as possible if going with a sub

I still have the GT5 2-way speakers and GTO tweeters I was using the front earlier, if needed.

My upgrade budget started out at 10k and has already reached 22k. I guess I can add another 8k or so for the rest of the upgrade. I mostly listen to rock (spectrum from Emerson Lake and Palmer to Megadeth). The Mrs. occasionally likes to listen to hindi movie songs.

@ Jaibir, i have the same setup as yours. i too have 937 in the rears. the bass is adequate, but i prefer not to fire them at the rear. i just play the illusions in the front and the sub in the rear. no need of vocals from the rear.
i suggest you to go for a sub. since you already have a 1004 jbl amp you can go for a GZ sub, i have a MK2 but i think now its not available. 30T is another option.

Leaning towards the sub to be powered off the 1004. Only worry is how to make it removable for when I need the luggage space. Specifically, can the set up be made in such a way that the amp power can be switched to the rear ovals when the sub is removed? Has anyone tried this?

In case this isnt possible, can I run just 2 of the 4 channels on the 1004 when the sub is removed? will this harm the amp of the components up front?

HEY,

Do you have the GTO937 or the GTO937SE?

GTO937 was discontinued in late 2006/early 2007 and GTO937SE was discontinued in early 2008. If you do have GTO937, I'm guessing it's been kept on the shelf for too long. If stored badly it may not sound right, especially if the cone/surround/spider is loose/moist,

That could be one reason it doesn't sound right. Just letting you know.

I have the GTO937. Guess they were old stock (I bought them in early 2008). Thanks for the tip Sam.

Hello Gurus...

My Boss has bought a new Skoda Superb Diesel May 09 Model...

He is considering a ICE upgrade, as the stock ICE does'nt sounds good to his ears...

He went to some guy in milan subway he usually use to (Mr. Gyaan), but he said he cannot messup in the wiring of this...

He wants to check in some installers with their quality n' stuff they have done, like
want to see n' listen their work n' then decide which one to go & what to go... Budget not a issue for him, will decide.

So by chance he asked me were to go, i suggested him the one i had heard about, Mr. Jacob Koshy from J & B Audio in Bandra... I gave his contact details to him, but the details are not up to date seems...

The address seems to be wrong or he has shifted, n' none of the contact nos are working...

Others i will suggest him are,

Mr. Zohir Ramodiya.

4. Hermit Audio.
Mr. Ajay Kamat.
Cell. No.: 93204 47654.

5. Mr. Sam Kapasi.

For some i dont have the full contact details n' address, u ppl can fill in & add some more options if u knw some good ppl...

Please let me know the reviews from Gurus n' others @ t-bhp about the above mentioned names n' ppl i have heard from my netwrk of ppl...

I would be happy to assist in any way I can, just can't sell him anything for his car.

Except for the power supply, the 2 stereo channels share no common components and are independent of each other. Running 2 channels out of 4 makes no difference to the unloaded channels or the loaded ones. It will harm nothing.

Just make sure the sub cables don't touch each other, or everything will be harmed, lol.
