OK gurus, heres a small query....

I know its best to use your own ears, but owing to the non-availability of a venue nearby to audition....which one would be better sounding, an entry level JVC DVD HU (i think 7305) or Pio 7950? Idea is to get bling bling AND DVD playback.

I'm not sure if the JVC HU would have 3 preouts as in the case of Pio 7950.

One possibility without buying more equipment: connect a cassette deck to a PC, capture and rip the songs to mp3. Burn them as a collection on a CD and enjoy on your existing HU.

If you mean you are trying to find alternative to a 2DIN HU, it is possible to fit a good 1DIN HU, alongwith an older 1DIN cassette based HU in the same space as a 2DIN HU. Connect the PRE-OUT of the cassette HU to the AUX-IN of the main HU.

For 10k, you can replace the front co-axials with a pair of components (Illusion 4.1) and upgrade either rear speakers (or) upgrade the sub. Remember to drive the components off the amp once it is done.
Spend a little on wiring and MDF tray now and think about other upgrades later (like amp upgrade).

Since you sit in the front upgrade the front speakers. Illusion makes a nice economical 4" component. If eh sony sub is not boxed I'd put it in a box. that will cost you about 1K. If you could afford it I'd upgrade the sub JBL's GT5 sub wil cost you 4K without a box.

For you next upgrade i'd get a better amp.

Eclipse CD7100 or Clarion DXZ775USB

One of my friends is returning from US and he has agreed to bring a HU for me. I have zeroed in on Eclipse CD7100 and Clarion DXZ775USB. The price of Eclipse HU is 699 USD and Clarion HU is 299 USD. The Clarion HU has all the features that Eclipse HU has (except Area Shot Navigation which I am any ways not interested in), but the price of Eclipse HU is more than double the Clarion HU. If SQ is the only criterion of selction , please advice should I go for DXZ775USB or CD7100.
