No downside. Depends on how you look at it.

If you have a princely budget, get an amp more powerful than the speakers, and indulge like there's no tomorrow. Kb100 offers free tips for such individuals, and it would be great idea to read his autobiography. It's just a matter of how things fit into your budget.

But yeah, more is better.

More power is harmful to the speaker only in a way powerful car is to the driver. You remain in limits its fun in both cases but once you try to push like a fool then in either case god helps (speaker & driver) .

Its all about how sanely you use your right foot and volume knob hence hooking a powerful amp to a speaker will never cause problem.

this was I going to write about but it has been written already....anywas is talking in this context the a 100 watts rms speaker with a 125 watts amp.
with the above statment this is right. but when people run the 125 amp to full blast it wil definately ruin the 100 watts speaker......

My understanding:
Clipping usually kills tweeters, Power usually kills woofers (if the distortion due to excursion overload is ignored).

a) I think this has been mentioned before but most woofers are more limited by their physical characteristics (Xmax, BL, etc..) than their electrical (Watts). Hence the watt ratings are not really relavant.

b) as far as headroom goes (I am adding this only to confuse and undo Sam's handiwork) it all depends on the QUALITY of headroom.
Say you are driving at 100mph. But the cars you are driving had tops speeds of 500 and 100mph then the extra headroom of he faster car is irrelavant. but if the cars you were driving had top speeds of 120 and 200mph the headroom is more relavant.

that is more like very low freq information. like said before 100W at 400Hz is one thing, 100W at 40hz is another.

at 500W....

If the signal is not bandwith limited (20-20K) a speaker like the one shown will make a not of ugly noises long before 100W maybe as early as 20W. Something like the video in your link.

If the signal is badnwidth limited (say HP at 12db at 200Hz) the speaker will make fewer ugly noises and then you will smell enamel burning then poof! No more noise.

This is what i dont understand .. on the American Inifinity website the Kappa perfect 6.1 comps cost USD 475 whereas the normal Kappa 60.7 comps cost 350 USD. Why the does the relative cost between Kappa and Kappa perfect increase so much in India ?

Because the Kappa perfect is not mass marketed. The more you sell, the cheaper it gets.
