Most HUs can drinve most speakers reasonably well - component or coax. The primary object of adding an amplifer to a setup should not be more SPL but better sound.

Adding an amplifier frees up the HU from this power hungry task. In addition to this a larger (external) amplifier is better able to control the speaker thus improvign the quality of sound.

That said your HU should drive the components reasonably well. If the components and the coax you are considering have the same sensitivity they would be drive to about the same SPL. The sound will not part your hair or get you noticed on the street but in msot cases would keep you adequately entertained. BTW you dont need to add a subwoofer with the amplifier. Amplifiers can be used to power just the front and rear speakers as well.

Since the amplifier will not be installed near the HU (in most cases) it is difficult to wire up step 1 adn step 2 at one time. You can ofcourse do thsis but will not need the wires from HU to speaker once the amp is active.

What you can do is get a 4 ch amp and bridge it to drive just the front channels and when you add the rear speakers you can revert to running the amp is 4 ch. mode.

That would mean getting and installing the amplifer in step 1 and leaving the installtion of the rear speaker in step 2.

Hey audio gurus I have a problem ...

I hear some hissing noice from my rear speakers when the music system is on but volume is zero. The sound is heard only when the car is revved to high rpm and is inaudible at lower rpms. What could the problem be ???

P.S. The noice is like nos is being used (from NFS UG2 and MW)

Should I stop worrying and enjoy the nos
Pease help
Thanks in advance

JKD's Carbon - NO NO

I just saw the classified full page ad of Carbon - I remember JKD you were asking my opinion on this.
I saw one carbon HU that looked identical to an alpine and another that looked identical to a Sony. lol
That itself should make it clear what kind of company it is.

hey audio gurus,

Hi,
IMHO, since its a swift, if i were were you, i would do as follows.
Head Unit - Pioneer 6850 (try for a 7850 if available or a P1Y instead)
Fronts - JBL GTO 606(components) - 6.5k
Rears - JBL GTO 636(co-axials) - 3.5k
I feel it would be better if stay with JBL GTO 636 or if budget permits then 606 components for the rears as well. I have seen these JBL 6 x 9 Limited edition series, THese are the same ones that are priced at 13k, right?. They sound really good but since you are planning to add a sub or maybe 2 then i feel it would be a waste to put "6 x 9" in the parcel tray as it would look shoddy and simply out of place coz there is a provision for speakers in the rear door of the swift.
Amp - JBL GTO 75.4 - 13.5k to power the fronts and the rears.

Sub - JBL GTO 1200B - 8k or 2 x JBL GTO 1000B - 13k
Amp - JBL GTO 301.1 - 13k.

Still, Wait for the gurus for their opinions.
Cheers

Still you can use your boot to accomodate 2 JBL GTO 1000B box subs, after which you have no place for 6 x 9's anyways and i don't feel its a great idea to stuff in those 6 x 9's in that place. Therefore i suggested you buy JBL GTO 606 components for the rear doors or the JBL GTO 636 Co-axials. This way it will look neat and stock and it will sound great and it will save you some dough as well compared to the JBL Limited series 6 x 9's which cost a bomb. You can install 2 amps(JBL GTO 75.4 and JBL GTO 301.1) behind the rear seat.
IMHO< i don't feel 6 x 9's and a sub installed in a common box makes good music to the ears .

Cheers

Oh is it?? My apologies then. I don't remember the exact model number but i remember seeing a JBL "Limited Edition" Set of 6 x 9's sometime back with my dealer which was for either 10k or 13k(i don't remember exactly). Anyways, if you still prefer using 6 x 9's for the rear then go ahead .

Cheers

The JBL 636 in the front mated to the 606 in the rear are a good starting point. I consider these speakers and the CS series brethren as the minimum. There are better. Please give us your budget. We LOVE to spend OTHER peoples money. :-)

Lets say you got 60K for a HU, amps and speakers (wires and install extra - about 5-6K).

Id spend appximately in this ratio...
1/3 of the budget for the HU
1/3 of the budget for the front and rear speakers and 4 ch. amp
1/3 of the budget on the sub and it's amp

A nice HU will offer you better sound. It all beigns at the source.
So HU can run about 15-20K
Amp and fullrange speakers 20-25K
and sub and amp another 20K

If you are looking at JBL amps and speakers
636+606+75.4 = 23.5K
GT4-15+301.1+ box = 23K
that leaves 12K for th HU. Either the P1Y or Alpine 9847 will fit this bill. There is a Blaupunkt too that is nice in this price range but I forget the model.

I'd do this...
Alpine 9847 14K
Alpine 240 11K
Pio D510 or Alpine M605 or 301.1 (have to compare amps on these 3) 14K
Infinity 6010 comps for front 8K
Infinity 6012i for rear 5K
JBL GT4-15 in custom ported box 12K (incl box).
Wires and install 6K

The JBL T595's do not cost 5 grand. Not even if they were available in the grey market. TheLimited ed, or the decade as they were called, is the worlds most copied speaker and there are many many fakes available.
The MRP for this product is Rs. 13,990/-
