I went window shopping to the accessories stores in Hyderabad last week - the price being quoted for the 6850 is 9.5k.

I was looking for Alpine HUs - nobody had them, at least not the lot on the Minister Road stretch.

Check the car audio section in the sonyindia.co.in site. They have some low priced sets. You could consider basic Pioneer models like DEH 4750 or I think there are some simpler ones too.

Price of the 6850 is right if bought from the grey market. I got it for the same price.

For Alpine dealers pick up the Apr edition of Autocar where Alpine has an advertisement. The bottom of the page lists all the dealers.

2 step approach for Swift

I've learnt a great deal about ICE in this forum, and its time now to get some setup in my new Swift.
I'm planning to take a 2 step approach to build the system due to budget constraints. I have the following plan (and a lot of questions)

Step 1: Right away
a) Alpine 9843 (or equivalent)
b) Front speakers : 6 inch JBL (Comps? : Not decided, see question 2)

Step 2: 6 months down
c) Amp
d) Rear speakers : 6 inch JBL

No plan to add a sub anytime.

Queries:
1. Suggestions for HUs with similar sound as 9843. Price less than 9K. I'm not really interested in zing-bang displays, but if some models offer better usability features, without compromising sound quality, please suggest.

2. Should I go with 6inch Comps right now. Will the HU output be sufficient to drive comps? Or will coaxials be better? I know Comps give better output, but 6inch comps with 16W RMS .. does it sound nice? Also, as I'm not adding rear speakers right now, can I use the power produced by HU for rear speakers for the front speakers? Please note that I will be going for Front Comps in Step 2 anyway, after getting the amp in place.

3. Should I get the wiring done for Step 2 right now? Is it possible? I would like Step 2 to be as close as possible to plug-and-play. I would also be interested in a setup done without cutting wires. Is that possible?

4. Please suggest some names/brands for wiring or connectors. I should know what to look for in the market.

5. Last, suggestions for good retailers/installers in Pune. I've heard about Poona Motors. Any other recommendations?

Waiting for help guys.
