I made a 3 way using 2 Tablas and a pvc cone with a 8" woofer in the larger box, a 5" Midbass and a modified Scan Speak aluminum dome tweeter (enlarged rear chamber to reduce Fs).

I've heard an 8" speaker in a lined matka and it sounded pretty good.

I have stayed in Hostels for 6 years...& most of the "boom" making speakers were in matkas..& they were pretty good....esp for Bollywood songs of the 90s..( remember - tamma tamma ??)
Lots of people used a music system called "York" or something...

I have also seen "walking speakers" - as a demo....someone just placed the speakers on the floor...played some loud music..& the speakers walked for 50cms or so..

crazy..isn't it !!

mclaren, there are no parallel surfaces, the design reduces internal standing waves and back reflections.

An asymmetrical, rounded enclosure has several advantages. First it results in the stiffest, strongest, most durable cabinet in its class and it suffers less from typical internal standing waves created by symmetrical designs.

This sort of free-form enclosure also enabls engineer to reduce diffraction problems resulting from sharp cabinet edges, which can affect the imaging of speakers. The curved shape—as opposed to parallel walls—largely reduces the possibility of standing waves that can occur when sound waves bouncing off parallel surfaces cancel each other out.

the basics of speaker cabinet design are discussed in the AES paper link below.

BTW Cal Poly has one of the best courses in music appreciation on the west coast. My wife and me attended one there some years back.

hey guys,
news from the ford accesories guys...
i can either have a CDX-F7710S (13K) or a CDX-R5810 (12K).
the deal is something like this, i pay the differential only that's either one's cost minus the 8K on the CDX-R3410. so i'll be paying 5K or 4 K respectively..
which one is the better model... i personally feel the F7710S to be the one.
any advices...
thanks,
ak

well i would say u better pick up the 7710 then..its the newest entry from sony HUs in india..though i would have preffered the 7715 which is equipped with burr brown im told that its not yet officially available in india..so going by the fact that u got to make a choice btwn 7710 and 5810 u would certainly go with the 7710 which looks pretty cool too..but anyday prefer a pioneer 7750 or a alpine 9833 which have way better displays and features too..so if u got no choice apart from sony go with the 7710 AK..and ya lastly both the HU have 3 preouts..
