mdf boards are compressed particle board, and is always recommended to use mdf. .75 inch is the way to go.

Particle board is fine to be used in speakers below 100RMS but not recommended for subs. For Subs below 150-200RMS .5 inch MDF should be fine. Anywhere above that .75 inch upto 400-500 RMS. Beyond that I think it's best to go 1 inch thick.

so basically chiragh needs to go for one inch think mdf board. chiragh, its best you get it made outside, rather than DIY. sub boxes need good air tight corners. get it done by a professional. according to the specs of your subwoofer. i guess, about 1.2-1.3 cu ft.

particle boards are not meant for sub enclosure, it is not as strong as mdf and will not be able to hold the sub woofer weight and the vibration.

Why not to use particle board:

- it will flex too much specially with the sub you are using
- it can contract and expand due to weather changes
- its is not as strong as MDF

There are other misc. factors too but that concern the one who is making the box and not the end-user.

very true....but if cost is not a issue I would go for Alternate material like....Aluminum.

cost for a port would not be much. im quite sure lelo boofers mera(lbm) is talking about a box made of aluminum. or maybe lined with aluminum.

Crutchfield.com - Car Showroom - Road Tests - James Turner's 1989 Honda CRX

check out the enclosure at the bottom.
im not sure if chiragh will take this suggestion, but its something interesting to look at.

LBM as a manufacturer of MDF I have interacted with lot of people here and abroad and essential concclusion is MDF also has much better acoustic charactertics. I am sure about Aluminum though.

Can you opine?

my dad is into plexiglass, and he says the acoustic properties of plexi are brilliant. but for an enclosure, the thickness of plexi required would be more than the average thickness of mdf required for the same box. this would make things bulky (not important) and FRIGHTENINGLY expensive (very important)
I have seen those plexu boxes abroad, and wanted to build something on those lines last time I did the big upgrade (a month back). but Dad and Ajay both said its not feasible economically, and that MDF would do as good a job, if well made.
