Cedia Sports ICE upgrade

HI All,

My cedia is almost 10 months old now. I always wanted to get a better system but OEM setup was fulfilling the requirement for the time being. Hence I kept postponing upgrade. It came with a Blaupunkt Baham 46 and 4 paper cone speakers. two were in front doors and two were in back parcel tray. BTW did the upgrade last month itself.

It was a descent setup with good sound but mostly flat in whole range for any serious music. So finally I decided to go for a speaker upgrade.

I have heard JBLs, sonys before But somehow never liked both of them. JBLs were very good but they were way bright for my taste. Dont ask me which 6x9s, i am not good at it. (no experience with Illusion, or polk (car system)). Though I found Polk monitor/RTi series home speaker system are terrific.

My requirements were,

1. Should give good good clarity, with almost negligible audible noise or distortion. With almost no sound outside car.

2. Must fit in stock locations. (Yes I hate tweeters popping out of dash board or door panels or A pillar or amps sitting in boot).

3. Mostly no requirement of external amplifier. (Again as there is no stock location to fit an amp )

Most of the system suggested here or i have came across do require an Amp. But I was reluctant to go for it. I thought of giving a try at Blau's speakers, in a hope to find some thing descent which is playable by HU and still gives fantastic sound. (I know it may sound contradicting requirements)

So one fine day I landed up in Blau's store and started auditioning various speakers. Most of the 6x9 were again harsh or bright or required an Amp. And yes as Gunbir pointed out in some thread that Blau's GTx 693 are crap, indeed they are. Odx series were good but again they require an amp.

Ok with most of the things not falling in place, I asked him to pluggon 663s without amp and as soon as it started playing, it started to get my attention. I asked him to plug Thb 210 A (8 in) active sub and Yes this what I was looking for I said after listning them for next 20-30 mins.

So guys to cut it short now I have 4x663s (2 in front doors and 2 in rear parcel tray) and a active sub Thb 210 A (240 wt). Doors were already dampped, so no need to do that, may be put damping in boot if I decide to mount it in boot.

Unfortunately that time he didnt had fresh piece of Subwoofer, so asked him to order one. Now got it installed yesterday. yet to do tuning of sub with rest of the system and yet to finalize a place to put that sub. right now its just placed in boot.

I am thinking of placing it below passenger seat. (is this ok? any suggestions)

I know its very unusual system but some how it sounds as I like it. Will put pics over weekend.

Total expense 20K with some discount (4x663s and + 1 active subwoofer + 1 Aux cable + cables).

hi

Hi, are you in Pune?

I am in Pune too. Am mulling over buying a subwoofer/amp combination at the cheapest possible option. I dont intend to listen to a lot of thump but i like a bit of bass to compliment the music. The dealer gave me an option of the THB 210A but it is quite expensive at around 12.5K. Do you think it is worth that much money?

Could you please let me know your experience with it?

Sorry man,

didnt visit this page since long. yeah i am very happy with the whole setup now. which includes 4 3way in stock ocations and thb 21a sub in boot. hmm for a that price u may be able to build sub with image dynamix woofer. I havent tried various subs so cant really compare. But i got what i wanted from thb 210.

Not worth the money. Unless boot-space is at such a premium that you're willing to spend proper sub+amp money on a very small active sub.

For 12.5 k,
Sub + box: JBL CS1204 & box = 5K to 5.5K
Amp: Blau GT2 special = 4K
Wires: 8AWG Power & 2-ch RCA = 2.5K to 3K.

Wayyyyyy more bang for the buck than the THB210A.
