Hi all,
A little story about how this all happened...
blueraven, your guessed it quite right, as i discussed about DD with you. The sub that you guessed i a DD9100 series woofer . This series is totally dedicated to SQ (800 watts RMS). They are not used for SPL purpose.
The 3500, 9500 and 9900 (Z series) are the ones used for SPL competitions. The one that i have are 1200 watts RMS.
I never really had hardcore plans to upgrade....life was good with those GT4-15.....until my brother calls me from US and says "Car audio is cheap here!!" He got prices for kicker, JL, MTX..and a lot of other brand....So we decided to upgrade.
He started looking for a installer in Texas, US. Doing some internet search, he came to know about "Custom sound works". He has a workshop and everthing. My bro spoke to him about all the above brands that i mentioned, and he told him to wait and come for a car audio show which was just around to corner that time. Its in that audio show where he displayed his cars having Digital Designs woofers with crossfire amplifiers. My bro was like "The system was INSANE....never heard anything in my life before like that".. Saab kuch suna, and we decided lets see if this DD fits in our budget.
I must admit, all of it was way out, totally way out of our budget.. But somehow since my bro started having good contacts with with installer, and knowing he is from India....he gave us a some discounts, and we also stretched our limits...Initially we ordered Two DD3515 15" woofer. Problem was that the recommended box of one DD3515 was very hard to put in the boot.....forget two 15". So settled in for DD3512. Box for these two woofers to also huge...it will be eating up the entire boot space from foot to head.
Box: Its has been strongly suggested by DD to go in for a ported Box, with 1" MDF.
Width x depth x height (inched)= 34" x 18" x 14"
Its gonna be center ported box with length of the port as 19".
Depth of the port being 15" and where the port bends is should be 3". So 15" + 3" + 1" (MDF thickness) makes it a 19" port. The installer also suggested that the port endings inside the box shouldn't be sharp. They have to rounded off as it gives better movement of air and better sound. So no sharp edges in box, everything needs to be rounded. This technique is tested by him self and he uses such boxes across his installs.
Woofers: As i said, these are DD3512eD4 woofers. Its custom build and handmade. It took 3 weeks for the woofers to be made and delivered to my bro.
