From whatever I have gathered on this forum, for 10K I think one should blindly go for a Pioneer HU in grey. The three models to choose from are 2950, 3950, 4950 - just have a look at them and decide.

As far as speakers you have two options:
  1. If you drive yourself and the car isn't driver-driven, go for front component speakers only (about 6K with bill & warranty, 4.2K without). - btw these are prices for 6" speakers. If you have 5" then it would be cheaper.
  2. Otherwise go for 4 rear coaxials.
The brands you can choose from are JBL, Hertz, Illusion, Boston Acoustics.

I got a chance to see open doors of a i10 I think 6.5 inch can go inside easily.

well, wrt grey, it's better to see on which model you are getting a good deal on that particular day. at times pioneer's are overpriced, and jvc or kenwood HUs are available cheaper with better features. even sometimes sony HUs are available at almost half the official price.

veb, you are doing good, thanks to T-BHP... jumma chumma chaar din nahin hue, apni gaadi mein ice lagaya nahi and already into "drive yourself? front components". very nice, appreciate your enthu...

however, in most cases front components are better accompanied by a subwoofer, or 6x9 co-axials at the rear, else they sound like a transistor (no base). a very exceptional case to a certain extent would be the Hertz umm... around 9500 Re components (i forget the name) which go pretty pretty low for their size. they could fill in considering a future upgrade. there could be other brands as well... i haven't experienced all of them.

well really it all depends on the balance of the sound emanating from the components if they are too bright you will get the transistor effect but if like so many brands (Infinity and Illusion are others that come to mind) they are a bit laid back it will be easier to get away without using a sub.

Well, I was wrong. The stock location is huge. One could even fit an 8"er in there (tough but possible with some drivers). BUT, the aperture on the door panel is for a 5.25". So its quite possible to use a 6.5 midbass in there too, but a lot of the output is going to stay in the door.

Some pics:

15K for what? just an HU or for HU+ 4 speakers?
HU: Alpine, Kenwood or Clarion
HU+speakers: Pio or Blau HU for 6-7K and 4 JBL or Blau coax speakers for 7-8K.

The grill is small but behind the pad the area is big. So even if you put a bigger speaker there the grill will be small. the part which is outside the grill will sort of just reflect back the sound.

ps: that's not a very technical explanation, just hope it is understandable.

I would consider it the best way to explain it. But what can be done anyways I would still recommend 6.5 any day.

But, cutting the door pad and using the speaker's grill would correct this. Right?

Pioneer 2008 HU+USB = 5.5k
JBL GT5- 5.25" or 6.5" comps = 4-4.5k
JBL Rear Co-axials 5.25" or 6.5" = 3k

Other brands = (Hertz, Illusion, Kicker, EFX) etc.
