Hi Sam,

I heard that there are going to be few more launches from JBL on 21st May. Like a GT-5 tube/sealed box. Is it true??

People get ahead of us sometimes. Sometimes even ahead in the wrong direction. lol

We may be launching some new products soon. I cannot tell you more about that yet.

I can safely tell you that there is no GT5 tube or sealed box. Do not fall for any market rumours.
There are 2 GT5 boxes. A single 12" Bass Reflex GT5-1204BR and a dual 12" Bass Reflex GT5-2204BR.
There is also a GT5 bandpass box which may be released soon GT5-1204BP.

The CS1204T tube continues with no successor at its price vs. performance.

  • Head Unit Pioneer - 6950 2,000.0 (Replacement Cost)
  • Amplifier JBL - GT5-A604 7,200.0
  • Front Components JBL - GT5-650C 4,500.0

  • Front Comps and Subwoofer - to be driven by Amp
  • Rear Oval to be driven by HU.
Advise if I really need to change HU?

am planning an upgrade and would appreciate it if you can tell me how the above sounds. Also where have you mounted the Rear Ovals JBL .

Yes, got the same done in January itself. The set-up sounds really good - clear and warm.
  • The rear ovals are fitted in a single MDF box - designed specifically for 6"X9" ovals - and does not obstruct the Safari's rear Jump seats.
If you are going ahead with similar set- up, please ensure the following,
  • The installer is really good and experienced
  • Installation of Front component speakers will require grinding down of some plastic from the pre-specified speaker slots - for proper fit
  • Tweeters fit very well - in the pre-specified tweeter slots - and look really nice
  • Proper tuning of amp is very important - The same is very nicely explained in the Amplifier (GT5 A604) Manual - you can try your hands on the same , post installation. One good article for your reference:
Use & Enjoy Your A/V Gear : How to tune a car sound system, Part 3: Adding a 4-channel amp

I didn't feel need for additional Subwoofer - as current ovals suffice for my requirements of low frequencies/ bass - for clear lively sound (and I don't want to sound it off to passer-byes)

Ishlesh

Price Difference in GT5 4 channel amp

I went to the MediaMarkt today here in amsterdam.
Couldn't resist browsing the ICE section

Saw the JBL GT5-A604E selling for 199 euros thats approx 12.5K

In india it sells for MRP 7990/-

@sam why is there so much difference of almost 4K in pricing

I see that in india the model no is GT5-A604 while the is an extra 'E' in the european model Does the E only say "European" or is it something different.

Though i am happy seeing that considering my future ICE upgrade and now will not buy anything here.

Would this Sub be happy with a GT5 2channel Amp driving it
or a CS60.2 if available.?
(P.S note:sub in sealed box. Previous posts seem to suggest that the above amps run out of breath driving a GT5 12incher in a selaed box. would this also be the case in the GT4 - 10?)

Yes E is for Europe.

One of the reasons for JBL's success in India is the competitive pricing, at par or lower than international pricing.
In any case, Europe is hardly the place to get anything cheap!

It would drive it well, but it would be better with a more powerful amplifier.

Hi Sam,

I am looking for the new Amplifiers and Sub woofer. I have already JBL GTO607C Components at the front and JBL GTO637 co-axials at rear in my swift. I am planning for the expansion by adding amps and sub woofer. I expect that the GTO range will have better SQ compared to GT5 or CS range. I was trying to select sub woofer and Amplifier. I was looking at the JBL site and selected country as India, and I found that the Bass Reflex Sub Woofer (JBL Boxed) is numbered as GTO1204BR, even the Fxaudio also indicates the same. Can you please clarify that it uses a different sub woofer than the one used in CS1204B and CS1204T. Another one I would like to go for the GTO series amplifier. I am planning to go for GTO75.4 for the 4 speakers and GTO301.1 Mono Sub Amplfier. Please suggest me in which way I can connect these. Or should I go for the GT5 series.

Please advice me.

I can clarify that the CS tube and box uses the new CS woofer (A re-badged GT-4 12). The GTO1204BR has been discontinued.

The current Bass Reflex box is GT5-1204 BR which carries a current gen GT5-12 woofer inside.
JBL GT5 Series-image-gt51204br-detail-view-02_thumb.jpg
Easily distinguishable because the woofer is black and silver.

The CS/GT4 woofer product looks like this
The JBL logo is orange on it.

I have only posted the above pictures to guide you about the differences between the 2 products.

Both the GTO75.4 and the GTO301.1 have been discontinued.
I see no problem with going for the GT5 amplifiers (if you have already decided for JBL) - you can go for the GT5-A604 for the speakers and a nice GTO monoblock for the woofer like the GTO3501.

Remember there are also other brands that can offer you good amplifiers, like Blaupunkt, Alpine and more good brands that you can find on this forum.

I am not sure if it is available in Mumbai, you can try various car audio and accessory stores.

When you say height, I assume you mean length.

The CS1004T is a cylinder 600mm in length and the diameter of the lower circle is 290mm.

I have already decided on the JBL range that too for the GTO series. I know what JBL is because I and my brother have purchased close to 30 Lakhs worth of speakers for the theater. So finally I would like to go for GTO 1004 and GTO 504 for full range speakers based on the budget and then GTO3501 mono block for the sub from the GTO range too. Please suggest me if I can get the GTO subs like GTO1202D in JBL enclosure.

Since you already have your mind made up on the brand, I suggest you go for the GT51204BR. That woofer is almost the same as a GTO1202D/4.

Once again I am not suggesting you buy any JBL products. I am suggesting that if you have already made up your mind, that's the model number to go for.
