MG ZS EV Audio Build | Ousail & Helix

Bought an MG ZS Ev in April 2024.

After retaining the Audio from my previous 2 cars, it was a no brainer to install them in the car. As usual I headed to teambhpian Muneem at Galaxy Cochin to install the Audio and thanks to him I faced one of the worst experiences ever. The wiring was third grade and the one week job was made a 2 day job as Galaxy is nowadays in a hurry to meet targets. Any beginner is given a 25L brand new car and all they care about is the 30K they might make in labour and profits.

What I saw on the fuse box gave me chills. I'll keep is private for now and will post if requested. Lets say I had to get to my friend to save the setup. Post few days I drive down to Kannur and finally the upgrade was on. Well, see Rohan's work in this post and I'll let mostly the pictures do the talking. We got started the same evening.

Best thing about rework on damping was that the Galaxy guy didn't bother to remove with layer of oil with alcohol before sticking the damping sheets. I guess my brand new car was his training session.

We decided well go with Ousail sheets in front and same sheets well try to retain at rear.

Now coming to the front I have a video of the sheets just coming off as its simply pulled. Thanks to the installer the doors were fresh without any residue of the old sheets. New Sheets coming in.

The 5-6 sheets were tried to reuse in the boot.

We decided to go for a proper simple Active 2 Way Setup with Ousail Handmade SQ speakers. Rohan put the previous equipments from the older cars for sale and we were all good to go.

Equipment:

Morel Handmade 2 way speakers
Helix DSP Mini
Helix M Six
Helix B10E (Retained)

Ill let the installation and the wiring speak for itself.

The Final Setup was RTA Tuned. Ill share the graphs below.

After tune

The speakers have just finished their burn-in period and feel a lot smoother. The setup will once again be RTA'd for the final tune.

Improper wiring is no joke and india doesn't value life. It's a fact. After burning my fingers with many such installers, I have decided to DIY everything on my vehicles from now on. Or pay garages for their tools and advice (I know nothing comes free), but do it myself.

Here's the way ACC power was tapped at a place highly recommended by BHPians. ( Indian De'Cars).

The fault is mine,I let it happen by not paying attention. But that doesn't Acquit them
Posting only because this is how 90% of the work in the market is done. Want to start an audio shop just for the satisfaction of doing it properly.

oh and this isn't even the right size fuse for my car. The fools just jammed it in

Great and neat setup! I've hardly seen ferrules with Shrink Wraps and crimps for installation, very few people have such an eye for details.

Just a general query of ICE upgrades to EVs, do such setups effect the Range of the vehicle?

No. I used a Class D amp from Helix.

Bro if I post this that itself would be a thread Its that serious and the list and photos are that much.

Moreover Muneem was a dear friend and used to take care of my previous installs. Although he avoided me once I informed of this case and neglected atleast 10 calls of mine.

He used a Hypersonic ambient light but I was infomed Cardi, the same stereo company which got fried in my previous installation.
He promotes more of this Hypersonic stuff. Earlier used to promote good stuff only and neglected android outright. I guess margins does speak. Lately been seeing 6650BT installing in cars which is good.

Looks lovely but how does this work with an EV vehicle, is it risky to play with electronics on an already complex setup? And any risk with insurance (I mean an audio setup like this in an ICE vehicle vs in an EV?). Just curious.
I used to go to Galaxy as well but felt the work I have is quite small compared to what they do and I just stopped going there.

Such a killer build, each photo and line shows how involved and passionate you are with the whole build.

Can't wait to try this out.

re: MG ZS EV Audio Build | Ousail & Helix

Hello sir, wonderful upgrade on audio I must say.
But what brings you to damping an EV considering the cabin's already well insulated?
Also,
I have an XUV500 which not only has tonnes of diesel clutter but the road noise is very prominent in the cabin, any suggestion for a suitable damping pad and whether to choose a single layer damping or a double?

Dear Krish,

The Damping as the name says is done to damp the metal against any resonance from the midbass. This is done for acoustical reasons and insulation is a positive side effect.

For Clutter youll have to damp and insulate the front firewall. For road noise best to damp the wheel arches and the door. Ill share some photos from my installers build.

Dear Rosh,

Lets say we kept the risk minimal by using a Class D amp from Helix for min power and max efficiency. The M Six was the best option. The whole active setup runs from this single amp.

Then Rohan had setup the DSP such that unless the signal reaches the DSP, the DSP and amp will not turn on. This ensures there is no current draw when idle. There is no other complex issue as the we run the on cars normal 12V battery.

As you see there are reasons why we did not go beyond the above mentioned equipment. The M Six was the default option, since OEM+ daily setup 2 way setup it is, active setup was already decided and the Helix DSP was a no brainer since we only used 5 channels and Mini MK2 it is. The Handmade was the new kid in block and even had much appreciations in built active setups. Even got reports where owners loved it more than K2 Power so we decided to give it a shot. The M Six was power matching to this also.

ESX RCAs are top notch and again another no brainer. Rohan has praises for Norstone speaker cables and we went with Aura power cables. The B10E I had was an SQ sub and matches the tonality of the setup. Overall Id say each component is handpicked for a reason.

Cheers.

Would making these modifications affect the warranty in any way?

Re: MG ZS EV Audio Build | Ousail & Helix

How the cable from battery is connected to the amp? Is it through a hole behind dashboard? Is it rat proof?
I had faced this problem in my Xuv500 and now afraid of doing this in my Xuv400
