Head-up display tech can make driving cars safer, says Harman According to reports, Harman - the maker of audio and in-car tech has come up with a new head-up display technology which aims to make cars safer to drive.
The new technology, called "Ready Vision Qvue' reportedly displays information on a black reflective strip at the base of the windscreen glass. The reflective strip would also extend slightly further up from the base to increase the display area. This position, according to Harman is in the driver's line of sight, eliminating the need for the driver to take his eyes off the road to look at information on a dash-mounted display.
Harman, states that drivers may spend 0.5 to 1-second glancing at the new head-up display tech; less when compared to the 1 - 2 seconds looking at a central infotainment screen or up to 2.5 seconds when staring at a third-party smart device.
The new tech is more aligned with conventional car instrumentation but set higher. The tech uses two Samsung horizontal displays that project the image with a "low halo effect", giving a sharper image and ensuring readability in all conditions.
Harman's new tech though is more conventional, compared to the recent tech unveiled by Hyundai. The South Korean carmaker recently unveiled a " holographic windshield display", essentially turning the entire front windscreen into a a full-display.
