Volvo will extend its latest infotainment system upgrade to older models as far back as 2020

Volvo recently debuted its latest infotainment system on its newest EVs such as the EX90 and EX30. However, reports state that the new infotainment system will not be limited to newer models, as Volvo is planning to offer the new infotainment system to its existing models as well, dating back as far as 2020.

The carmaker stated that it will roll out over-the-air updates on all its 2020 and newer models, which will include Google built-in. Volvo stated that the models which will officially get the upgrade include C40, XC40, EX40, EC40, S60, V60, V60 Cross Country, XC60, S90, V90, V90 Cross Country and the XC90 - as long as these cars have natively fitted Google or Android operating system.

The OTA update will provide Volvo's latest infotainment system to over 2.5 million of its vehicles around the world. Volvo calls this "one of the most comprehensive infotainment updates by any car maker to date."

Once updated, the infotainment system will receive massive changes to its interface. This includes reducing the number of taps to access frequently used apps, no more toggling back and forth between different apps for navigation and music, and a shortcut to the phone app that will be present permanently on the home screen.

Reports suggested that Volvo's new infotainment system can be adapted and scaled to fit various screen sizes and orientations.
