I'm using a Pioneer TS-WX400DA and it comes with a wired remote. This will fit well within your budget.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Hi all,

Can someone give me their feedback on the Sony XS-AW8 active under-seat subwoofer? I'm thinking of purchasing this, it looks like it is built quite well. But I'm not sure of the sound quality from these. I know Sony is not the best when it comes to car audio, but how bad can they really be? Considering that we don't get many of the big name brands in India - Rockford, JBL, Alpine etc. - anymore. I've searched the internet for alternatives but can't seem to find any within my budget.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Friends, I'm looking to upgrade the sound in my new Polo Highline TSI. The Headunit seems good, but the speakers are just okay and lack treble.

I'm going for Focal plug and play speakers as the first stage upgrade. Components in front with tweeters to be flush fixed in mirror side sails after cutting a hole in them. 2 way at rear. No amplifier presently. Installer Motorogue at Mumbai says this should suffice.

But I'm looking for clean, crisp sound, and doubt if that'll happen without a subwoofer. I don't need car shaking bass, just need the sub to enhance the overall sound as a home theatre sub does.

So experts kindly guide- should I add an under seat sub? Which brand would match? If going for a sub, should I use a 5 channel amp, or 4 channel amp with an Alpine sub with built in amp? If 4 channel amp, then how will it cut off and relay the correct signal frequencies to each speaker?

An under-seat sub will definitely make the sound overall better. My experience is with the Sony XS-AW8 and i can tell you it completes the sound. It won't rattle your car but it will just add a bit of warmth to the music. But in case you are installing it, be mindful that it will require some tapping of factory wires. An under-seat subwoofer is active so it will have its own amp.

As for the amp, if the speakers you are adding are sensitive enough you shouldn't need one. But if you plan on doing further upgrades down the line, I'd advise to go for a good 4-ch amp with line-out for the subwoofer.

Cheers!

Not sure if you already purchased as I am seeing this post late.

I have this sub, and have mentioned in post#102 in this thread.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

Hello everyone,

Has anybody used blaupunkt xlf10a underseat subwoofer? Sony underseat subwoofer is not available with the installer and as per him, this one is similar if not better in performance.

Thanks in advance.

Bumping up an old post. I have the itch to install an under-seat subwoofer in the Nexon. Especially since the most favourite car in my garage is the only one without a good subwoofer setup .
Where did you get the Kicker box from? I'm not able to find it in any regular online channels.

Do you think adding the subwoofer was worthwhile? I.e. with all the time that has passed - do you still consider it as a worthy investment, and not a placebo? I ask this because the stock Harman setup in XZ+ comes with pretty good components already. For sure a big fat setup in the boot will take it to a different level. But then I use the Nexon primarily for road-trips so cannot compromise on the boot space. Will take the plunge if the underseat subwoofer does bring a significant bass improvement on the stock setup. (Of course depends on the subwoofer that is used.)

Thinking of using a high-low converter to pull the stereo input to RCA from the head unit, along with a remote signal. Absolutely against opening up the door panels to pull speaker wires. Luckily I know the head unit wiring pins, so tapping into them will be relatively easy.

I got the Hideaway 8 from kicker through a friend in the US. Mine costed approx 16k at the time of purchase. Well worth the money and is still working great. I opted for this 1. Compact, underseat install - boot space is not compromised. 2. Active sub, no need for a separate amplifier.
This complements the current setup very nicely.
I had my account locked out, hence the delay in reply.

Re: Underseat Subwoofers

I recently got a used blaupunkt xlf 200a off OLX for my etios. I liked my Sony xs aw8, but 17k was hard to justify. I got the blaupunkt for 5k, and I bought it from a Hyderabad seller. Shipping was another 1k. When it arrived, on testing, it started to smoke. One of the capacitors on the input side had decided to give up it's magic smoke. Got it replaced myself.

The vertical capacitor on the left had vented. You can see the it had already been repaired once before. The orange keltron cap is obviously non original

Old and new caps. 16v is very close to the margin of safety. Car voltages can go up to 13-14v. Replaced it with a 25v part

New capacitor installed. Height was a constraint and I couldn't fit anything taller than 25mm. Else I would have put something bigger.

Interior shot. Looks like a class d amp. No heatsinks for the output devices . The driver is a 0.6 ohm unit so it doesn't need any elaborate voltage boosting circuitry you would need to get 150w out of a 4 ohm sub

Got the correct rear wiring harness and connected to that input. Link for the wiring harness is https://amzn.eu/d/1W7IQJp

Installed below the seat

Got it installed today and have to admit it sounds so much more better than the Sony. I was feeling lazy to DIY, and it cost me just 1k to get everything installed by my local friendly neighborhood ice shop.
