Re: 29-lakh rupee audio upgrade | Concert in a Kia Sonet | Installation done at Speedfreaks Chennai

Wow, I read it morning and it still runs in the mind. Kudos on your guts and the love for your passion. I know there are lot of us who have plenty of wishes but at the same time living with a dilemma thinking about the expense on fulfilling those wishes. Your post will make at least few of us (for sure me) to proceed towards achieving wishes, but mine are very minor like Lenso Dyna Jager for Swift, Lenso Project D, Free flow exhaust for City.

Re: 29-lakh rupee audio upgrade | Concert in a Kia Sonet | Installation done at Speedfreaks Chennai

I have had a 8+ Lakh install done in Speedfreaks as well recently and have a post up on it here. (VW Taigun gets a mega ICE upgrade at Speedfreaks in Chennai)

The setup is not yet over and I do think when I post the final set up, I too will be using Speedfreaks photos as they do much more justice to the build. But you are right, too much of watermarks - it does infact block some view.

Quite a few users have posted about their experience and setups at Speedfreaks and elsewhere as well.

And there’s something else I’d like to highlight - having met and spent time with FlipFlop. The guy is by no means born with a sliver spoon , doesn’t come from a filthy rich background. He is an extremely hard working middle class Joe, and simply LOVES his music. He provides for his family, and saves for his music. He’ll run this car and setup for 10+ years now, all the while saving for his next set up. That’s how he is, and actually is a true inspiration - for saving and reaching and living our goals, and enjoying life when we are alive.

And here’s something more which really shocked me when I first heard and it took me awhile to really understand.

FlipFlop doesn’t even enjoy driving too much. It’s not like he loves driving and will take off just for the sake of driving.

His trip is finding his solace and space and his alone time - a little bit everyday. He’ll reach home after a tough day of work, will park, switch off his phone and spend some time listening to his music with no distractions. His way of Yoga. He does this diligently everyday.

How many of ours reconnect with ourselves doing what we love everyday like he does?

Just saying Kudos would be grossly understating my appreciation for what I just read!

The figure in the title itself made my eyes pop-put, a la cartoon-style!

Godspeed to you dear friend for the sheer balls of investing a small fortune in this audio upgrade. Can only imagine how the heavenly tunes of ARR must be sounding on this beauty!

Sick upgrade, I must say and phenomenal workmanship!

Re: 29-lakh rupee audio upgrade | Concert in a Kia Sonet | Installation done at Speedfreaks Chennai

Nice car setup but I'd like to know why class A is being thrown around liberally here. Single ended class A can't be done in a car period. The current and power requirements are way too much for a car battery.

I had a real honest to goodness Firstwatt F7 that generates around 20W in class A and that thing weighed 35 kilos. The ambient heat and heatsinks required are way too much for a car amplifier.

High bias class AB? That maybe possible for 3-5W and no more.

I have another serious reservation about the source being used. 20 odd lacs for components and a cheap cayin source? Surely one can do better. Garbage in Garbage out remember.

I for one, after many frustrating instals for audio, think SF are the best, and I would like to share my experience with others - just as the OP has done. This will aid users and hey - even Speedfreaks for sure, but quality does deserve to be highlighted.

Holy Moly! A 29 lakh audio upgrade to a sub compact SUV? Speechless!

Why not buy a better vehicle altogether for that much money?

Also, do the changes not void warranty?

You have to have the heart to spend twice the amount of a car on its audio.

What happens to this upgrade when you decide to move on from Sonet?

Hey @flipflop , congratulations on this amazing stuff.

So far, I believed the most someone could spend on ICE was 3-4 lakhs, but gosh, you've elevated the standard. If I ever get the chance, I'd want to see this magnificent work of art.

The most amazing item, by the way, is that 29 lakhs setup on a 15 lakh car, which literally burst out my eyeballs.

I'm also curious in what happens when you sell your car. Will you transfer this ICE to another vehicle?

Man oh man. I can only say this - "VERA LEVEL PANNITENGA". In this day and age finding an OG audiophile is very rare. I'm very sure this will sound better than many home-studio setups out there. The same set-up on a Virtus 1.5 DSG would've been even more stellar, basically an Audi with VW badge. But taking nothing away, man this is something one could only dream of even if one has the means to achieve it. Kudos!

On a side note, can you share us your home audio setup and what headphones you personally use?

Cause we all have now got into the habit of using basic audio functions from steering controls, its safer too.

Amazon's Ultra HD has the same library size as their prime / compressed audio or it is severely limited ? If its the same library its a no brainer to upgrade to that service.
The cayin has track change physical buttons on the side so changing tracks is actually easy. Contemplating where to get it mounted though
I use Apple Music sir. By mistake I typed out Amazon

Which is to say that I find it very hard to believe that any rational person would spend the money you claim to have spent on that car for something as nebulous as sound quality. While I won't label myself an audiophile but I do indulge in top of the line Shure, Marantz and Sennheiser equipment. If I were the audiophile you claim to be, I would have just bought top-of-the-line wired headphones for my in-car audio needs and called it a day, but that's just me. You, on the other hand, are incredible.
I did happen to read the entire comment before it got removed. Each entitled to our own opinions but.. whatever I will let it pass.. peace

The power circuitry in ground zero is actually good. When in full class A mode, I Dont know about the wattage but there was a very evident change in sound signature

My source is Cayin yes. But cheap? I beg to differ. The cayin n8ii I have is 3,00,000 and I think it’s much better than a few so claimed SQ HU.
And sir, hence, I feel there is no garbage in/out here.

Class AB technology

As I mentioned there is no class A

There seems to be a bias switch which increases the bias current. Still no mention of class A.

Also price has absolute zero correlation to sound quality. One of the nicest amps I have heard uses modules that cost exactly 100$.

It does have a rohm chip which is good and also used by Luxman. But the chip means nothing.

Edit: Just saw your dsp does A/D and D/A conversion of everything. So the player doesn't matter at all. Just feed it a digital signal via SPDIF.

If your player supports that, use it else find a player with SPDIF outputs.

This is probably one of the most interesting stories I've read on this forum. You must be extremely passionate about your music.

If you don't mind, what hifi/home theatre set up do you use at home?

I tried using spdif but I liked the analogue from DAP to my DSP better.

I have an astell and kern sp3000 too and I like cayin better.

I love what I am hearing and to each his own!

Re: 29-lakh rupee audio upgrade | Concert in a Kia Sonet | Installation done at Speedfreaks Chennai

Thanks for the post . I didn't know till now that such expensive audio upgrade could be done in cars. A lot of information was shared by you, which i am still trying to understand. It was very educative.

By the way can listening to music from such high end audio distract us while driving? Please don't mistake my asking this question.
