According to media reports, Audi is planning to launch an app store for some of its models equipped with its MIB 3 Infotainment system. These models will now be able to install the YouTube app, allowing passengers to stream videos directly from YouTube.



YouTube is said to be the first video app in the Audi store. The app will be available across a wide range of 2024 models, including the A4, A5, Q5, A6, A7, A8, Q8 e-tron and e-tron GT. Audi states that the in-car app works in the same way as the smartphone app while also enabling Premium members to log in and watch ad-free content.

The app allows passengers to watch videos from their car's large central infotainment displays. However, as a safety feature, the app has been programmed to play videos only when the car is parked.

Audi is just the first brand under the VW Group to get the video streaming app, with Porsche and other brands also expected to offer it soon. Apart from YouTube, the Audi store will also offer other apps like Spotify, Tiktok and Yelp soon.

Truly. Why would one want to concentrate on anything other than the driving and the sights around and perhaps some music?
I am beginning to intensely dislike all these excessive electronic entertainment aids in the new age vehicles.
Give me driving pleasure and safety and the old analogue experience any day. Maybe Im just a luddite but then, its better than being such a slave to ‘Connected Tech’

Just carry an iPad with you or keep it in car dash if passenger wants to watch Youtube so badly while sitting in the car. I am sure Audi buyers can easily afford one.

I completely agree with Shankar, this is getting ridicolous now. Instead of focussing on making cars more safer, prioirty seems to be putting tablets and Youtube in cars. I personally alrady find the Tablet on my hector a distraction, could have worked on making the software smoother and more bug free then spending the time increasing the size of display on the car.

Physical buttons should be must for AC and Volume control in a car.

Hi, I'm wondering why there is so much refusal/denial/hatred towards the next generation advancements in the Connected Cars!! OEMs doing these features does not mean they're not focusing on other aspects of the vehicles. So come out of the denial mode and accept this generation people's expectations. The OEMs will still spend lot more budget on the Vehicle safety, ADAS, Cyber Security, Functional safety etc. You should compare their budgets for these vehicle safety features vs budget for Connected Tech (the latter will be tiny).

Having a big IVI screen or Digital Cluster or screens spread across the dash does not mean people will not spend time on any other things in their life. They will still drive the same car to go for a family trip or a trek or sightseeing or country side drive etc. However for these apps (youtube etc.) there will be usecases otherwise they will not simply spend their research Engineering budget.

For e.g., look at the new dash cam feature released in the new Hyundai Exter, it shows how OEMs are adapting to customer needs.

Yes we can watch the videos on tab/mobile but we need to keep it charging in the car and what difference does it make if we watch on IVI or tab for the same content. So they're adapting to the customer need and outperforming their competitors with these novel features. Actually the OEMs are providing new safety and other vehicle features as well but may not be getting enough media attention!? Since this is a popular feature so perhaps it is a catchy headline.

Will be helpful to have some integrated solution like this, when you're stuck in a jam or parked. Definitely a hit in my family.

This would be very helpful when waiting for someone, rather than using my mobile and draining the battery. We can utilize the built-in option; they would have definitely considered this after conducting a survey with the buyers and understanding their expectations. This is a good move. Even if I am driving, I would use YouTube Premium to play the songs ( Interviews ) and lock my device; I don't need the video all the time.

Personally, I feel that, rather than using YouTube Music, YouTube itself is good at playing the next songs based on my taste. So yes, I would play music on YouTube and keep it running in the background.

My humble Android HU plays You Tube, Amazon Prime and what not. But in reality only apps that I have used ever (other than initial few days) are Google map, Spotify and another one to connect Apple Car Play.
So while it’s good to have feature, really not an important item to be a news.

It does says only when it is parked so I am not sure how it affects driving. That being said, it might be a big deal for Audi, it is not for a company like Tesla or upstart EV companies from China which Audi/VW will be competing with in the EV space because they do software really well.

Also, these apps are immensely helpful. I recently became the owner of a Tesla Model Y Performance and I use these apps (youtube, netflix, disney etc) all the time when I have sometime to kill while waiting. Infact givem how good the audio system is on a Tesla, watching netflix is as good an experience as it is with my well specified samsung home theatre system or arguably even better.
