Re: Android Auto set to get a new look in 2023; Plenty of new in-built features & tech

I noticed yesterday that Google has enabled Coolwalk UI for me. Please note that updating the App might not enable Coolwalk as it's a server side switch, which Google is rolling out in phases. This is how it looks on my Alcazar.

The best way to know if you have Coolwalk update is to check if you have the option to enable weather under AA settings on your phone, if you have it, Coolwalk is not enabled for you as Coolwalk does not display the weather information.

In AA settings I don't get the Widget thing that you highlighted.
Possibly this change isn't pushed to you yet. I think that the AA beta version 8.5.x was first reported to have coolwalk in it but as a server side push. Your version is higher, wait for it to be pushed. Likely happening in batches.

Hi, My AA version is also 8.6.625054 and I'm also using a Realme phone and a 2016 i20.

I can see the new widget in the AA settings.

Re: Android Auto set to get a new look in 2023; Plenty of new in-built features & tech

Been seeing the new AA UI for a few days now, but yesterday on my road trip to Calicut could use it to check the improvements. And I was disappointed with 3 things in the UI:

1. The split screen. This Apple-esque thing was quite jarring. Need to see if it can be disabled.
2. The way calls are handled. Previously there was a disconnect call button at the bottom of the screen. Now there is only a call icon, which I have to tap and go to another screen to end the call. Then to get back to navigation I have to tap on the Maps icon. I see that there is a setting to go back to the older UX, will most certainly activate it.
3. They moved the clock from right-top to right-bottom. Difficult to adjust to this (but I expect I will manage in the long run). Completely unneeded change in my opinion.

Didn't see any real functional improvements like pinning my chosen route (yesterday for almost the entire Mysore-Kalale section it was imploring me to turn back and go to Calicut via NH 275 instead of the, in its own estimate, nearly 2 hour shorter NH 766 route).

Got the new Android Auto UI, Little late since people had received the new UI in Jan itself. No clue on why was it late. So far, I've welcomed the change and currently loving it. Fluidic and much responsive than earlier UI.

I too am very disappointed with the split screen. I thought it would be like an android tablet or phone were the 2 screens are actually independent and the passenger can change the song/ scroll through the library while the navigation is still on. I dont understand the point of split screen if it still goes to full screen when you open a card.

The 7.x beta versions of Android Auto had a weather widget in the top right, which used to show up if there are no unread messages/ notifications. This is where the navigation suggestions are showing currently -

(Image from search results)

It disappeared (at least for me) somewhere around the time AA 7.8 beta came out, and was replaced by a clock that said Good morning (or afternoon/ evening) asking with the time. Even that's gone now.

Let's see if Google brings them back - or do anyone here still get the weather or clock widget, and it's just me?!

Re: Android Auto set to get a new look in 2023; Plenty of new in-built features & tech

Even after updating the version to latest via Play Store, or even using the more recent via APK, removing old versions, resetting the app etc etc. - it still doesn't work.
Wireless AA works flawless - just not the split screen.

I don't know if it's model specific ?!

Mine is OnePlus 8 Pro on Android 13.
HU is OEM 8" in Kia Carens.
Versions tried so far - 8.6.x / 8.7.x /8.8.x

Any inputs ?!
I hope we don't have to do anything apart from having the required version and using AA the normal way ?

Same with my 1+8T. The same AA (8.6.x from playstore) version on my wife's Pixel 7 gets the split screen. There appears to be a backend server update pending for many users. Don't know in what sequence this is being enabled.

It doesn't look like model/version specific - but rather account related(few on beta testing too have receieved it long back ). I have tried the exact same version of AA which is working on others and it still doesn't work for me.
I have even tried more latest version than one even visible on PlayStore - and still nothing !

Or maybe it's an issue with OnePlus ?

I guess we will have to just wait it out...

Much needed improvement with this update, one can scroll the 'now playing' progress bar to the desired time/position

In case you are wondering how to get full screen map, just touch the map (shortcut) icon

New screen layout is showing up with my OnePlus Nord CE2. I guess it must be account specific.

Re: Android Auto set to get a new look in 2023; Plenty of new in-built features & tech

So got the Android Auto split screen working. Did the following, not sure if it was account specific from backend or these steps.

1. Settings - app management - open Android Auto. Click on 3 dots on Top right corner, and click on uninstall updates. AA will revert back to version 1.xx

2. Reboot phone.

3. Patch AA via Playstore. 8.7.xx version is getting pushed now a days.

4. Open settings - app management - AA - scroll down for "Additional Settings for the App"

5. In AA settings page, repeatedly click on version number till it shows that you are a developer.

6. Top right - 3 dots - Developer Settings.

7. Scroll down and enable "Unknown Sources "

8. Choose "Developer" in Apication Mode in AA Developer Options.

9. Reboot phone

10. Tried first time with a cable.

Some steps will seem redundant and useless. These are just the one's I tried and they worked.

Maybe give it a try

( Unless you see "Taskbar Widgets" in AA settings it's not working.

OR

If you see temperature getting displayed on HU, then also it means that split screen is not working.
)

Re: Android Auto set to get a new look in 2023; Plenty of new in-built features & tech

Hi all,

This is my first post.
Like others I was also waiting for android auto coolwalk assuming that it will give me full screen on my new i20 10.25 inch screen. I got coolwalk few weeks ago but it didn't give me full screen and from online search I came to know this needs to be enabled by car manufacturer. My hopes were again on the rise when I saw a new infotainment update downloading..which took about 10 days to download (may be due to network or server issue). Sadly hyundai dithched i20 owners by not giving us android auto full screen this time also. Seems creta/seltos/venue are given preference
