Re: Carlinkit 4.0 | Wireless Carplay & Android Auto from the same adapter

I’m just going to reiterate for Delhi/gurgaon folks, if you want to come over and try it before buying, you’re welcome to come over, I stay very close to cyber city.

On my harrier it’s very unreliable, I have replying it 4-5 times before it plugs in.

Please be mindful of the fact that Motorola MA1 is compatible only with Android Auto (AA). Whereas, Carplaykit 4.0 is compatible with both AA and Carplay. If you want to have both AA and Carplay in a single device then Carplaykit 4.0 (not 3.0) is the way to go.

Oh, that's very helpful information, just did not read that fine print. I have Android and my wife IPhone. Would have lost that capability if I had ordered Motorola..

Found the solution for the problem
It was a simple issue of the mike being covered by the polythene wrap. Removed it and the problem is fully resolved, and communications is now clear.

It will work with units having factory fitted wired Apple Carplay. Android Auto is connected through Apple Car Play. If wired apple car play is available then both wireless Android Auto and wireless Apple Car Play will work.

Re: Carlinkit 4.0 | Wireless Carplay & Android Auto from the same adapter

My friend bought Carlinkit 4 recently. It has December firmwire. His car is 2020 Creta SXO. When he connects (Android Auto), the screen is stretched like this
Carlinkit 4.0 | Wireless Carplay & Android Auto from the same adapter-img20230408wa0007.jpg

Carlinkit 4.0 | Wireless Carplay & Android Auto from the same adapter-img20230408wa0006.jpg

If you see the icons come below and not on the side.

All settings are default, resolution set to auto. Any idea if resolution needs to be set to specific value or DPI change would solve the issue?

So this hit a dead end, all the mails to carlinkit with images, they said nothing can be done, and if he wants he can return the device and get a refund. They specifically said "our product is probably not compatible with the narrow screen of your car."

Issues he faced were -
1. It hangs when first time it boots up, it needs a reboot of the HU for this thing to show up on screen and working. Delay in media projection or delay start settings did not solve the issue
2. Stretched screen when it works, with DPI changed to 165, reduced the stretch a little but still the display is not normal.

So looks like it is not compatible with Creta/Seltos' 10.25inch HU.

Disappointing that only option of wireless AA available for India also not foolproof.

Anyone has any idea to try out?

Regarding your resolution problem, Android Auto allows you to change the resolution, have your tried it?

1> Open Android Auto, scroll down to the bottom where you see version
2> Tap multiple times until you see a message saying developer mode is enabled.
3> Scroll back to the top, click on the options button on top right, you should see "developer settings"
4> Scroll down to "Video resolution".

You have multiple options, please see if one fits

From what i see, the options seem to be as per standards, 1280X720. 1920X1080, etc.. if your screen is non standard resolution, i doubt it would work.

hope it helps.

These have been tried already. And in case of wired AA, there is no issue. The resolution is 1280x720 then and shows up normal. But when connected with carlinkit4 (carlinkit resolution set to Auto), AA on mobile shows the resolution to be 1280x720, but on screen it is distorted. If we select 1280x720 or 1920x1080 on carlinkit settings, it cannot display anything - not even that stretched screen. Only "auto" works but distorted.

We tried syncing the settings with a specific resolution like on phone and carlinkit both 1280x720 or 1920x1080, still it does not help.

As it works all well with wired AA; also we tried with my AAWireless dongle, there is no issue in resolution and display. So we assume carlinkit4 firmware cannot detect/display the resolution properly on Creta/Seltos 10.25inch HU.

Anyone here using carlinkit4 with Creta/Seltos 10.25inch HU connected with AA successfully without distortion and issues? Can you share the firmware + settings details (and some images would be of great help)? (in that case I would assume this particular piece is defective).

Re: Carlinkit 4.0 | Wireless Carplay & Android Auto from the same adapter

When my android Auto get connected to Carlink when parked in underground car parking where there is no internet, it struggles to connect and when it connects it gives blur rainbow color image and get struck. When i come above basement also, it still stays the same, have to pull out the USB and re-connect, it connects within few seconds when in internet available areas.

But Apple CarPlay connects well without any issues even when in non-existent internet areas.

Anyone faced this issue? Should i update the firmware and check?

One positive point about carlinkit, is their return address is of some warehouse in Chennai, so it's easy to return. And they refunded the amount within two days.

Disappointed that only officially available wireless Carplay/AA option in India did not work as expected and company gave up just after giving some basic FAQ.

Re: Carlinkit 4.0 | Wireless Carplay & Android Auto from the same adapter

So ordered a Carlinkit 4.0 from EBay last month for my MG Hector 2019. Was around 40% of the price at which it was retailing in India so I decided to take the risk.

The unit arrived today. Packaging was good. Carlinkit 4.0 | Wireless Carplay & Android Auto from the same adapter-img20230501wa0022.jpeg

The dongle itself is pretty compact, smaller than I expected.
Carlinkit 4.0 | Wireless Carplay & Android Auto from the same adapter-img20230501wa0024.jpeg

Decided to give it a spin. Connections were a breeze.
Carlinkit 4.0 | Wireless Carplay & Android Auto from the same adapter-img20230501wa0027.jpeg

Everything works well. Autoconnects when you turn on the car. Navigation is fine. It Enables wireless AA through Carplay so it'll still show up as Carplay on your car screen but it'll show Android Auto on your phone.

Issues:

1. There is a bit of a lag. It's noticeable. But one can live with it.

2. This is a bigger gripe. Resolution. The original wired AA did not use the full screen for navigation.
Carlinkit 4.0 | Wireless Carplay & Android Auto from the same adapter-img20230501wa0029.jpeg

While this dongle does use the entire real estate, it ends up with not so great resolution. The display looks a bit stretched. I tried all the settings in developer options under AA to change resolution etc but nothing works. Will probably mail Carlinkit as well. Guess it's an issue specific to the 10+ inch screens of Hector, Seltos etc.

Is it liveable? Yes. Worth it for a wire free experience? Definitely.

Got it for around 4k on eBay.

This one's Carlinkit 4.0. There's a different version available for aftermarket HU.
