What mode? What mode?

Wireless is the norm today,
And for music, it's all over Bluetooth.
Services like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Amazon Prime Music are all the craze today, growing up with an iPod in my pocket when online streaming wasn't a thing, I've struggled with laggy iTunes interface and syncing music to the iPod.
Online streaming shouldn't really be a problem, except for one thing,
For the purists, nothing but for FLAC, Apple lossless etc. quench the thirst for uncompromised audio quality.
Free streaming is good, but not good enough.
And high-quality streaming services like Tidal and Amazon Music HD aren't available for Indians as yet.
And buying each song for 15 bucks on iTunes will end up being more expensive than my whole audio setup for the number of songs I have in my playlists.
Sadly for us, not available in India
I've seen several members mention that they have an iPod permanently docked and parked in their dash. More so in the earlier days of One DIN systems without Bluetooth streaming.
I want to start a discussion on parking a dedicated device in the car for music.
I mostly stream music on Amazon music over Bluetooth in the cars.
My ideal solution would be to plonk an old iPhone/iPod with the Amazon music app into the glove box after offlining my playlists.
Both cars have the USB+AUX ports in the glove box.
Amazon lets you offline music. But I don't know if I can browse through the music from the head unit that way, my head unit has inbuilt Spotify app which allows all that, but I don't want to pay for the subscription for ad-free and HQ music, since I already am paying for amazon prime( music+movies+prime delivery)
WHY?
- This started when I noticed that streaming over Bluetooth was significantly worse than playing songs over a USB iPod connection in the Safari
- I found the dock connector for the iPod in the Honda City, the urge to use it has come up.
The city 2016 OEM Head Unit with MapMyIndia maps doesn't support Large-capacity USB drives and doesn't have iPod connectivity over USB. It has a special data connector. Which connects to an adapter and then connects to iPod (30 pin connector) (not lightning). I need to find a lightning connector too. I want to use this cable as it will allow
- The safari's AVH-x7850BT head unit supports connecting to 2 Bluetooth devices at once and switches to the one on which a call is made or is ringing. But for streaming media, a single device has to be selected from the two connected devices, and it gets glitchy at times. You can choose any two to connect from 3 paired, and one to play music from
Something like this:
- Laggy interface from the head unit
- Music controls on HU don't work sometimes( play/pause, shuffle, repeat etc.)
- Retro feeling bro. Wired is already outdated. But nothing beats the redundancy, reliability and quality of offline music wired to your car
- I would rather have several dedicated devices except when it needs janky setups like putting a GPS screen on my dash, or separate gauges on the dash. I will prefer having it all on the head unit instead.
What I'll gain
- My Safari supports USB up to at least 256gb drives and also iPod/iPhone connection over USB which is of much higher quality and fast + glitch-free.
- Album artwork will be displayed, I'm a sucker for details like these, no matter how insignificant. I want to see Drake sit on top of that tower when I'm listening to the views album.
Album art in iPod mode
Album art on the home screen too
No album art in Bluetooth mode :(
- Will finally be getting the controls like shuffle and repeat actually work
- have properly managed albums, unlike in Bluetooth which doesn't browse through files and folders:
- I can fold away the display and use the remote for controls.
Otherwise, the screen is blocking the AC controls, which isn't all too bad because we don't fiddle with it that often, but still.
And will finally be able to use all the buttons on the remote.

Only pain will be to source high-quality music to put on an iPod.
Most of my streaming is over Amazon music, my house is slowly inching towards the Alexa smart home ecosystem and having playlists sync over the phones, car and echo devices is really convenient.
Is there an alternative except ripping CDs and syncing with iTunes?
The world is slowly getting more and more digital. I'm younger than most of you but I hate it the most. The world is all about stuffing everything into your smartphone like camera music player calculator etc. Call me old school but I still prefer a dedicated camera in my backpack when I'm shooting, a separate iPod in my car and a Texas Instruments calculator parked at my desk.
