Apple Maps gets Turn-By-Turn Navigation in India

Apple has enabled the Turn-By-Turn Navigation feature for Apple Maps in India.

The voice navigation feature will now be available on Apple Maps on iOS and MacOS devices. The feature can also be used on Apple CarPlay infotainment systems.

In addition to turn-by-turn navigation, Apple Maps now also gets cab service integration. This feature gives users suggestions about cab services like Ola and Uber when searching for a specific location. Clicking on the cab options will open the respective app.

Reports suggest that Apple Maps still isn't as dependable as Google Maps when it comes to route suggestions during peak traffic hours. It is also missing features like flyover support and 3D view.

Did Apple manage to clear the mess before they launch this in India ?

I've never heard anything good from anyone about Apple Maps till now.

Though being an iPhone user for long, I'd any day prefer Google Maps. It's simple and 99% accurate (expect one day when it directed me to a corn field)

Actually Apple's turn-by-turn navigation is pretty good, it has better lane suggestions and provides alerts early enough as opposed to Google Maps. The main issue with Apple Maps is that its POI search is pretty rubbish compared to GMaps.

Having used Apple Maps in Turkey & China, it is actually better than Google Maps (actually with GMaps blocked in China, it isn't a fair comparison :P) in these places, however Apple really needs to build their landmarks / search results to effectively compete.

It'll be interesting to see their traffic data though, which is something even Google struggles with in India given our amazing traffic discipline

If nothing else, this will atleast get Google to improve Maps faster as well, so good for the consumer!

The only complaint I have with Apple maps is their traffic information for Mumbai is pretty much useless. Google Maps, by comparison, provides far greater resolution and more updated traffic patterns for me to plan my journey and factor any diversions I may have to take.

I prefer Google Maps over Apple Maps for this simple reason.

Yup Google maps are a great time saver by continuously working on giving a shorter route.
I guess this would be possible with apple maps as well once more and more people start using apple maps. After all, it's we who are helping Google get the accurate information like the speed we are doing etc.

I have used Apple maps, primarily and its layout is cleaner in my opinion. If it is as accurate as it is in US, I will prefer using it in India as well. I am happy that we have options now, in addition to GMaps as it would afford routes and time comparisons in real time.
