You don't have to touch the FA/VO at all

As for e-sys and license , wish you had PMd me - I got my lic key for 50EUR and e-sys premium for 20gbp from a user called dconer on car technology boards
Communication issues in English aside, I have no reason to complain about the discussion/transaction
Thanks a lot for the clarification. So, I need to add the license using the FSC code and activate the two flags in the HU. I have not yet got the FSC code for CarPlay. I have only paid for the E-Sys launcher license yesterday and waiting for that. Should have contacted you before paying!!

I have sent you a PM for details about obtaining the FSC code.

Does Apple maps offer navigation in India? If yes, how good it is compared to GMaps? Last time I had tried, it did not have turn by turn navigation feature.

Apple Nav is not particularly bad. I wouldn't use it vs gmaps on phone directly but it definitely integrates better with carplay
Turn-by-turn works and if you use an apple watch, it even taps you on the wrist to remind you of upcoming turns/lane changes
They seem to have enabled traffic data as well.

Having said that, the accuracy of the traffic data in gmaps seems a lot better

Re: Enabled! Apple CarPlay in my BMW 5-Series (G30). EDIT: Dealers now offering the upgrade

A quick update on my CarPlay adventure:

A brief background on what actually happens when you enable CarPlay using third party solutions: BMW stores some files called FSC certificates for each feature being activated - like navigation, carplay, speech etc. With the iDrives that come without CarPlay, the FSC certificate for CarPlay will not be present. It is not possible to upload just one FSC. It is needed to erase all the OEM FSC certificates and upload a set of non-OEM FSC certificates. For the HU to accept these non-OEM FSC certificates, a patch has to be applied to the HU. This is done using a .bin file. When you insert the thumb drive to the USB port, there is a .bin file that does this patching.

Had got the FSC certificates from a guy from Europe forum. When trying to install, found another issue. During my last oil service, the dealer had updated the software in the car. This is something called I-Step, and the version is 18-11-530. In versions 18-11-xxx, BMW has locked out .bin file loading from USB port. So, it did not work. That is EUR 55 down the drain!

There are other solutions available that can enable CarPlay, but that will require a E-Net cable. Will update more soon.

Very important notes to everyone who plan to get Apple CarPlay activation:

1. If your car has got I-step version 18-11-xxx, it is NOT POSSIBLE to do the USB based activation. When you contact third party services with VIN number, they will only check what was the software version at the time of manufacturing of the car (or they may not check software version at all). If your car got a software update later, they will not know this. And most probably, you will not get a refund in case the solution does not work.

2. If your car had I-Step version before 18-11-xxx, and if you successfully installed CarPlay, make sure to tell the dealer not to do a software update on the iDrive. In case, they perform an update, then the patch that was applied at the time you installed CarPlay will be gone, BMW will not install new FSC certificates and the non-OEM FSC certificates will not work because the patch is gone. In this situation none of the iDrive features like navigation, voice etc. will work. It will be just a media player. And it will not be possible to load the patch as the new I-Step would lock out USB based .bin loading. So, you will have to get the E-Net cable based solution and enable CarPlay again.

Just wanted to update that Spotify has finally launched in India and works really well in my G30 using CarPlay. Infact its a much better experience than Amazon Music or Tune In and best of all its free.

It's official Now - BMW India Dealers can update Idrive and activate CarPlay on 2016 onward cars with NBT Evo head unit with ID5 or ID6

Finally after a long wait, got this installed on my 7 which had the hardware but Carplay was not activated. It costs around 32,000 in case wifi antenna is present else about 4,000 extra. Here's the copy of Invoice that mentions the part number as well some pictures. Spotify sounds so clear and finally, I won't need Mobile holder

This is great news indeed! And 40K is a reasonable price for the activation from BMW without having to worry about warranty issues is really good.

Thanks again for this update.
You added the invoice also in your post and it helped me.

I asked my local BMW service station to enable Airplay in my 3GT (I have the same model as @graaja and I even upgraded the suspension to M Sport thanks to his guidance).

First quote I received was for Rs. 46,982.
I called the service advisor and told him that my friend got the same for a lower charge.
He revised the quote downwards to Rs. 38,195.

I am told that it will take around a month to organise the code and then activate it on my car. I wonder why should it take so long, but I shall wait.

No, it can happen same day on any weekdays as the dealership needs to get the vehicle order changed from BMW via their internal software which happens in 15-30 minutes. Speak to someone senior or bring the car to chandigarh, I will get it done by the time you finish your lunch at nearby Elante Mall.

Thanks for sharing the info.

Do you mean this can be done on 3GT 2017 which came with iDrive without touch screen? Or is this applicable only for touch screen iDrive?

I believe it should be possible, but dealership can confirm. You can ask service advisor or PM me and I can try.

Thanks for the offer.

I think I shall wait now. I have already paid an advance of 30k, on service station's request.

Surprised that different service centres of BMW have different standard operating procedures.

Check the below post where I have listed the iDriver versions that can support CarPlay.

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/car-e...ml#post4556904 (Installed! Apple CarPlay in BMW 3GT (F34))

CarPlay can be installed only in NBT_EVO ID5 or ID6. The one without touch screen should be ID4, which does not support CarPlay. But I would suggest you to check with the BMW service center to confirm.

Hi @graaja,
I remember from your thread (about your friend's car) that you had to install a wireless antennae also in his car. Surprisingly, BMW has not quoted for any wireless antennae in the formal quote (pic added in my post above) that they shared with me for my GT.

Is it:
(a) that its price is included in the license?
or
(b) they have missed adding it?
or
(c) my car (330i GT m-sport petrol) already has the wireless antennae?

What is your guess?

My guess is it could be (b) or (c). From my discussions with the Service Manager here, my understanding is that for cars manufactured after November 2017, the antenna is present. Only the FSC code is not enabled.
If your car is manufactured in or after November 2017, then this should be the case.

If your car is manufactured before November 2017 (like my friend's car was September 2017 manufactured), then they will have to install the antenna. Talk to the service guys and check about this.

Manufacturing date of my car is Oct 2017 as per the Registration Certificate. So, it seems they have made a mistake and not told me about the wireless antennae.

To offer a quote they took several details from me including VIN and copy of RC. Lets see what they say when they call me for the installation. I shall update.
