I ordered the following from AliExpress on August 16th : [*]SJ4000 with WiFi (Yellow :D) - http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...016716076.html[*]Car charger + windshield suction mount - http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-h...744161930.html[/list]
Though the cost is on the higher side compared to the listings in DX (and other seller listings in AliExpress) this one comes with an additional battery and the seller - Puhui Digital - has very high rating (the seller had sold close to 2000 non-WiFi and 25 WiFi cameras when I placed the order). Also, the camera comes with SJCAM logo and the seller claims that they're one among the very few who're authorized to sell the camera with the SJCAM logo. |
Got this email:

I am not getting a USB extension cable of 3 meter length to route it through A-pillar.
I have tried:
1. BlueRigger SuperSpeed USB 3.0 (Type A Male to Type A Female) Extension / Repeater Cable (10 Feet / 3 Meters)
http://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00H...ilpage_o00_s01 NO power through this cable.
2. Target TC030EC USB Extension Cable 3m (Black)
http://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00Q...ilpage_o01_s00
It delivers just 300mA power on a 2A charger (read my review with pic on Amazon)
Fellow member "Dry Ice" tried
3. Storite USB 3.0 Male A To Female A Extension Cable SuperSpeed 5GBps For Laptop/PC/Mac/Printers (300cm - 9 Foot - 3M)
http://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00GGMKKC4

Measured the current and it seems to halve the output. When connected directly to charging port I observed around ~940 mA. Through the extension cable it was reduced to ~460 mA.
Camera works fine but if I turn it on without connecting to the charger it gives a low battery warning.
Maybe due to low amps it is just able to maintain the battery juice but doesn't really charge the cam.

Someone please suggest me a cable of 3 meter, either USB extension cable or USB to Micro USB cable which can deliver at least 1A power.

I'm also looking for USB extension cable for routing it thro' A-pillar. If you get hold of it, please update here.
I would suggest its pretty difficult to find a compatible usb cable. Instead get the 12v power near the camera and use a 5v DC-DC converter + a normal usb cable.

Thanks. This looks good?

But it takes 3-4 weeks normally and 6-7 times out of 10, I don't get the product from ebay.com and aliexpress (they refund the money though, but waste of time)
Also, is it safe having joints in 12v wire near IRVM ?
Any other suggestion ?
Can you make the cable yourself? If it is not possible (is it?) to get the USB plugs as home-solderable pieces, then just chop ends to match the relevant sockets each end, add extension cable to suit, twist, insulate --- and you're done!
I don't know if the internal conductors are standard colour-coded. When I had to replace a hard-wired USB A on something, recently, the colour coding in the cable that I chopped was the same --- but careful checking of pinouts in theory on the net, and in practice with a meter, would be necessary. You are only talking about the two power carrying conductors, right?
Mind you, although it is not hard with the USB-A end, you'd need a needle-fine meter probe* for a USB Micro plug, and even then it wouldn't be easy.
*Tape on a needle-fine needle!

This should be good. Take the power out either directly from the fuse box using a coupler or from the 12v out. Depending on the length you can go for a fuse just before the dc-dc converter. Make sure the joints are proper and covered with heatshrink and use thermal insulation for any roof cabling.

Another alternative which I have been trying for the past few weeks.
I used my older chinese dash cam's charging wire and bought a mini to micro usb adapter off ebay.
Charger is something like this -

Mini to micro USB adapter -

Haven't really measured the current output with this arrangement but seems to do the job. My guess is it might be a little higher than 500mA at max.
A small suggestion:
If you dont have one already, add a micro-HDMI to HDMI cable to your order. (I have plenty of USB cables, but no micro-HDMI - have to search in the camera bag, maybe I have one). I found that this is not part of the package from Puhui Digital.

I bought mine directly from Sjcam site, costed me 99 dollars. Shot a lots of video and photos on my recent trip to HK. The battery lasted me a full day with extensive usage. I used a class 10 32 gb memory card of sandisk, at full HD recording the card is good enough of 4.30 hrs of recording. I am glad I picked this up over a go-pro. A superb VFM. |
One of the video I shot with SJ4000 during my HK Disneyland visit, request you to ignore the audio, few words needs to be beeped but I have absolutely no idea how to. Sorry.

It's pretty simple actually in VLC.
1. File tab
2. Convert/Stream >
2.1. Open media - choose your file here
2.2. Choose profile > customize > Audio codec tab > Uncheck audio
2.3. Choose destination > enter location to save the audioless video
3. Go
That's it!

Open video in "Audacity" audio editor.
The audio will open. You can delete parts you do not want from the audio then save audio as a separate mp3. Then in youtube, you can give this mp3 under replace audio option.

Guys,
A basic query. Any idea how to lock/ protect a video clip in SJCAM4000 so that it won't get overwritten? There were a few clips I accidentally locked but don't know how I did it stupid:
