If yes, please share details. |
Yes, mine does run of the portable power bank capable of supplying 1A+ current. I have an Anker power bank which does so.

How many minutes does the camera run on the power bank and what kind of capacity does you power bank have?
I am just looking at alternatives to powering the dash camera.

Never needed to go full capacity. I used it for just 20 minutes. That said the powerbank is 13000mah, and can charge my "Note 2" 3 times :)
Theoretically speaking if you camera pulls 1.5A of current, it means you can use it for 8 hours

Dry Ice, you had to pay anything extra towards custom duty?
Flipkart is selling this model from Garmin with one year manufacturer warranty at a huge discount. Costs Rs 11397 as against MRP of 37990/- It has GPS, Barometer, Altimeter and accelerometer with 2000 mAH battery. It can take time lapse videos also
Can this be used as car dash cam. From the reviews on the net it seems it comes with a very short proprietary micro USB cable. So the chances of charging it from USB port on the car audio system is difficult. 5 meter cable is sold separately by Garmin.
Is it worth buying as Dash cam

From the specs it seems to be one terrific action cam. It has some decent reviews too from what I could google out. It could just be me, but I find the price at 11397 too good to be true!

Even if the port on the camera is proprietary, the other end of the cable should be the standard A type USB connector. So you can always use a USB extension cable to connect it to your Audio system or to a 12V USB charger. You just need to make sure that the current supplied is sufficient for the camera (I believe around 1A should be sufficient).
But to use it as a dash cam effectively, you need to find out if it can automatically start and stop the recording based on the power events on the USB cable.

USB cable port end of the camera is proprietary. The audio system end is ok, but the camera end is not, hence ordinary Micro USB does not work.
The reviews does not mention any thing about cycle recording/continuous recording

A USB extension cable at one end has a Female A type connector similar to the USB port found on a laptop/PC while at the other end has a regular USB A type male connector.
Found one on Flipkart -

Connect the short proprietary cable supplied by Garmin to the camera's port. Connect the other end of the short cable to the USB port end of the extension cable. Now connect the other end of the extension cable to the audio system and you are good to go.

No, thanks to the value declaration by the seller I guess - less than $25.

So here are a few videos I shot over the past few days.
https://youtu.be/BuO3jOJSgvE https://youtu.be/zc7yimSAzqs https://youtu.be/MfvvEkIOvl4 https://youtu.be/WFP-QKLS5D8 https://youtu.be/qBmGYeZY7J4
Yet to shoot a proper night time video though - will post that soon.
I wanted a black one initially but sadly it was out of stock so ordered a white one. Had some CF wrap lying around - which I put to good use today. :)
Now it's a much less obvious that it's a camera when viewed head on.

Yes, those are the correct links - I have also put them in video descriptions. You can use the coupon '6e6e0b' for extra 5% off.

Thanks. I was getting impatient and bought it last night. It has been shipped today.
That's nice CF wrap you have done. I ordered a black one and was thinking to put just a black electricity insulation tape on "HP1080P SJCAM" to make it less visible.
