The inbuilt battery has become weak and its not able to keep the clock running. Hence the clock is resetting back to its own day 1.

I faced this issue, at increasing frequency, with the 70mai M300 that I was using as a rear dash cam. I ended up changing it to a Nexdigitron camera with a super capacitor; super capacitors would not loose its storage capacity.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I have been thinking of installing a dashcam ever since I had an accident with a drunk biker. From the little time I spent, I have short-listed the Qubo 4K and the 70Mai A510, both of the same price. But looking at some videos posted here and some Youtube comparisons, can't help but notice that in the night videos, number boards of the vehicle immediately in front are all washed up (overexposed?) in the Qubo. Is this a known issue that can be fixed or mitigated somehow? If night quality is a concern, should I go with the 70mai?

I understand the 70mai has the upgraded Starvish 2. Can it make such a big difference?

The Qubo costs around Rs. 2500 in comparison. Does the 70mai M200 have a super capacitor too?

Starvis 2 sensor makes all the difference. Checkout this video

Youll have to check the website for super capacitor info. But if anyone drives at night, buying a non starvis 2 dashcam is just a waste of money as numberplates almost always be unreadable.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hello Team BHPians,

I am about to finalise the Redtiger F77 front and rear Starvis2 4K dashcam for my 330Li, but I am faced with a peculiar issue. I initially thought of taking the Redtiger A4 model but when it got delivered, the cigarette lighter charger is not fitting in the cigarette lighter socket. Perhaps the circumference is smaller on the 330 because the same thing fits in a Dzire.

I am told all Redtiger cigarette lighter chargers are of the same size, which means, I will have to use their OBD hardwire kit or buy another cigarette lighter socket extender to see if it fits. Anyone faced this issue with Redtiger chargers?

In my 330 the OBD port will not stay on after 8-10 min, so battery drain is not an issue and the kit has a voltage cut off option as well. Although I am not sure if using the OBD port for charging is safe in the long run and BMW also don't recommend this. Have any of you used the OBD charging option?

I have a cigarette lighter socket with 2 USB ports (which plugs in well), but since that would be only 5V it may not be suitable for such a high end dashcam. 12V is recommended. Since I have returned the A4 dashcam, I don't have an option of taking the F77 and returning it again for a refund, if above options don't work.

Any inputs would be highly appreciated.

Most dashcams have separate USB cable which can be plugged into any mobile charger. Isn't it the case with F77? Have you tried different mobile charger with appropriate power rating which can fit in your car's socket?

No, in F77 the cable is attached to the cig adapter. I don't have the F77 in hand, but the Redtiger guys said that normal 5V adapter is not sufficient for this high end dashcam. But then I looked at the Viofo 229 Plus adapter which has an output of 5V/3.1 A USB A ports in its adapter which has input of 12V. So wonder what is different in F77.

Thats a bummer, what if cable gets damaged in future? Is the cable mouth going in the camera universal USB C type? If so then maybe a different cable can be used. And I think you have choice of 5v/12v while buying a mobile charger.

IMO 4K+4K is overkill due to the limitations of storage space in the memory cards. Eventually you will end up reducing the resolution to store longer duration of videos. Why don't you consider something like Viofo A329 instead which also supports external SSD recording. Plug a 2/4TB SSD and forget it.

I can buy a separate USB C 10 ft cable and use this charger: https://www.amazon.in/Portronics-Cha...1zcF9hdGY&th=1

But I am not sure whether it will be sufficient to power the camera because output is only 5V. Their adaptor with the attached cable is 12V.

I didn't want to stretch beyond 25K and Redtiger seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

Great video, thanks. Many models in this video are battery based. Is Super Capacitor not required for North India where temp gets 45C in summer? Pls advice.

Also on rearview mirror model - does it mean existing rearview mirror will be replaced with this one? Mine is XL6 which already has 360 degree camera setup for driving, so parking mirror etc not needed

I used the M200 for over 2yrs in my 3D Thar and I frankly faced no issues. However, I haven't read too much into in which scenarios supercapacitor is critical in a dashcam.

Rear view dashcams are usually mounted on the IVRMs.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Any recommendations for a place to install dashcam in Audi A4 in Bangalore? Don't want to approach just any accessories shop and I don't think I will be able to DIY. Planning to purchase the cam from Amazon and get it installed at a reliable place. Looking forward to inputs!

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I have a Qubo dashcam in my Baleno, the issue is that the power disconnects once or twice a month and the dashcam turns off. Then once I realise it I have to reinsert the charger in the socket and it turns on again.

This is a problem because what if an incident happens and the dashcam is off due to a loose connection. How can I prevent this?

You need to find the exact cause of the fault. If it's the dashcam itself, then hardly anything you can do except for pushing for a warranty replacement. If it's the cable or a loose connection or a problem with car's USB port, then you need to attend to that issue. So, you need to pinpoint the cause of the problem. You don't want to miss the footage when you actually require it.

Thanks.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I recently purchased Hyundai Alcazar and looking to install a dual channel dashcam. I might go with Redtiger F17 but finalising a dashcam is still not done. What worries me though is the way rear dashcam is installed in a car having curtain airbags. I have watched many dashcam installations from India and no one bothered to run the cable for rear dashcam from floor but everyone just tugs the cable on the side under curtain airbag. This imposes serious safety risk as in case of any unfortunate accident, curtain airbag deployment might be challenging.
I am a big fan of ChrisFix and he has perfectly shown how to run a dashcam cable on floor. Hopefully if I show the video to a fitter he will be able to install. Will update here soon.
