Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

While giving car for servicing, do you remove dashcam? Dash cams like Viofo A118c are pretty invisible, do we need to remove it before giving car to HASS?
I think keeping dash cam in car would be wise in case something happens with car during service you will have proof with you, but at same time wondering if it gets stolen

Best is to remove before handing the car over.

If the technicians etc fiddle and damage it, you can't even hold them by their neck.

Only the owners manual is left behind in the car.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Anyone in Bangalore can recommend where I can get my dashcam hardwired?

My Novatek GT300 went kaput a week back and I've ordered a Viofo A119 from Aliexpress. This time, I want it to be hardwired rather than using the one and only 12V socket in my car.

There is an anniversary sale going on in Aliexpress. Good time to get stuff!

Any reason why you did not buy the a119s?

Majorly "moolah". Wanted to get something within 6-7k.
Also, people are complaining on a lot of forums like Dashcamtalk, etc. about teething issues on the 119S.

Bought the A119 a few hours back with CPL filter and GPS module. Seller had excellent ratings.

Bought the A119 + GPS from seller: Darling Trade (98.6% Positive feedback). Here is the link.

And ordered the CPL filter and hard wire kit separately. The hardwire kit has a Female USB socket as I already have a 3 meter USB to mini USB cable.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

The link mentioned by 'abhi7013' looks like a sweet deal with the GPS and CPL included.

Most of the issues described by users for the A119S can be attributed to the GPS mount. AFAIK the manufacturer has identified the issue and the GPS mount is being revised.

I for one prefer the narrower FOV and superior low-light performance from the A119S.

Video out

Installed the camera last Saturday which was fairly straight forward. It was straight forward because I have neither hardwired it nor routed the cable for front camera from behind. Will do it later. However the cable for the rear camera is routed through the roof lining.

After using it for a week, these are my observations

Positives:
  • Both Front and rear camera are full HD
  • Very good quality video-Both night and day time
  • GPS
  • LDWS
  • FCWS
  • Simple to install
  • Wifi
  • PC viewer and Mobile viewer is easy and functional
  • Parking mode recording with time lapse
  • Audio instructions for everything
  • Rear camera can be turned around to record car inside too if we want

Negatives:
  • No display of its own
  • Can't change the video duration. records in only 1 minute segments
  • LDWS and FCWS are very very sensitive especially for India
  • Audio instructions are irritating sometimes

The mobile viewer app and the PC viewer software both are not very complicated and well laid out

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-20170401_131659.jpg
PC Viewer where front and rear videos plays together. Front and rear videos can be switched between the big and small areas.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-20170401_133908.jpg
We can toggle between the map and smaller video screen

I even upgraded the firmware once to the latest version. It was very easy. just downloaded the zip file from thinkware website, exported to the micro SD and put it back into the camera and switched it on. in 2 minutes, it was upgraded.

Overall very satisfied with the purchase.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hello!

I am planning to buy a dash-cam. Is it better to buy one online, or get a friend to bring one from the US? Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Apologies if this question has already been answered, my searches did not yield any definitive answer.

Thanks!

I recently got a Transcend DP220 from the US; I was in the market for one for a few months and the only reason I didn't get it from Amazon India was price.

Amazon India had it for 11-14k (16 Gb) while I got mine on Amazon US for $145 (32 Gb) so that's 9.5k.

Got the Viofo 119. Quick delivery by Aliexpress. Works like a charm. Also, since Hexa has no power in any of its 12V outlets with the ignition off, thought of using my powerbank. It lasts for 7 to 8 hours straight and can easily be used when parked, with motion sensors on.
Sorry for the poor quality images!
