Overall a good buy at 50 USD

Planning to buy this one for my SX4 since it comes with a windshield mounted IRVM. Can you post a raw video without compression from your car? I can compare it the VIOFO I have and then decide.

At the price, its worth it since its also got Wifi which is quite handy.

I think, I will wait until 24th (the site banner says - more discounts coming in on 24th )
This is fantastic deal.

A119 is fairly proven & good quality camera here, right?

Anything I should be aware of?
(I don't mind buying a (current/ current-minus-one generation) vfm camera - even if new version is expected at 25% more cost, with more features(?) )

I don't even mind plugging in a SJ4000. ( although SJ has marginally lesser clarity, but has a nice 45 min worth battery/removable/rechargeable)

Any reason I should choose A119 over SJ4000 (wifi) ?
Both now, seem to cost within 10% of each other.

------

Most probably, My 0801 Amberella mini DVR is ready-to-retire after 2.5 years of service against 100USD paid for it.
It hangs, "solid blue light", power supply acts up. etc.
I will try to format it / reset the firmware, check another power cable- to try and revive it today.

Cheers,

Ace.

I doubt it's going to go any lower but no harm waiting..

Don't have one but as per user reviews and comments, it's reliable. A119 owners could pitch-in with their views.

The A119S with a IMX291 sensor (which's a lot more sensetive) will be releasing next month for around $120.

The A119 is also receiving an upgrade of sorts. The new lot will have a slight modification to the lens housing in order to accommodate a CPL filter, which should be available next month as well. Also the GPS mount has been modified/upgraded for better GPS signal strength.

The SJ4000 is great value at what it goes for today but for dedicated dash cam use, IMO the A119 wins hands down.

Some of the pros over the SJ4000 -

Capacitor instead of a battery
Discreet wedge shape design
Better low-light performance
Adjustable lens (up-down and left-right)
1080p @60fps (less motion blur) and 1440p @30fps
G-sensor
GPS

Replacing the battery in your Mini could give it a new lease of life, at least till the replacement reaches your doorstep. Could be an issue with the power supply or card too but such issues are usually due to a battery on its last leg.

Hey All,
I have been searching a good Dash cam for my Volkswagen GT TDI. I want something wireless with good app and good resolution. It will be better if i can get hard wired. I have gone through Gopro and SJ and all, extremely confused.
Please Guide.
Budget- Negotiable.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Guys I am using Gopro Hero+ as a dash cam in my car. The issues I am facing are:
1) Battery back up, either keep it connected else it will exhaust within 10 minutes.
2) 32 GB memory cars is good for only 2:44 hours of recording. After that it just doesn't overwrite itself and I always have to manually delete the previous clips.
3) Never auto ON and OFF. Even if I connect it via WiFi with phone; then also the WiFi is turned off after a couple of hours automatically.

Any suggestions over what to do and what not to?

Check out the Transcend Drivepro 220 or 520. These are good cameras and all rounders. There are plenty of sample clips available to check out quality.
Its available on Amazon for 11.5k.

Hi everyone,

I recently plugged in my SJCam 4000 WiFi using a car mount + frame mount combo, everything is going good but I have some minor concerns;

1. The camera is setup upside down due to using a frame mount. I'm able to turn on 'Rotation' in the settings which corrects orientation for the output video, but was wondering if there are any means by which the whole interface can be set right? Or would I have to shift to to the standard backpack mount holder?

2. To turn the WiFi on, I'd have to stop recording and then push the respective button, this is inconvenient as I've set it to run on 'Car Mode', so was wondering if there was any means to set the WiFi to remain always on?

If anyone here is using a similar setup please advice, thanks in advance.

Hi vkumar, I use a GoPro hero3+. I have bought a case off aliexpress that has side openings. Allows me to keep the unit charged while driving. Regarding the memeory card space, please set the recording setting to looping ON and interval as MAX. Make sure you format the card once and start. It will keep recording till full and then again start from the scratch automatically.

WiFi doesn't go off for me. It remains on. Maybe in your case the battery is dying and hence the wifif turns off?

I have approached couple of local shops in Chennai to get me the dash cam hard wired...both of them said its not possible (probably they weren't interested in service business - )

Please do share the details if you were able to get this done

there are specialist shops for ICE installs who don't sell stuff and only charge for install. One is opp the cemetery in Kilpauk. I went to him once but didn't install through him. There are more in the pudupet area if you ask around.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hello,

I am planning to get a dash cam from US. Confused between the transcend dp200 & sjcam4000. Has anyone used the sjcam on their helmets? Is it possible to have a dual purpose cam(helmet & dash). Any other options I should look at?

Thanks in advance!
