Don't have one of these but do have the same chipset and sensor in a different dash cam. It's a good combination for great night footage.

From the reviews available, only problem is the flaky and limited app.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Have a generic g1w dash cam. It's recording just fine but the on cam buttons are not working. Menu, Mode etc. Only the power button is working.

What could be the issue?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Anyone powering it using 12v socket instead of hardwired? How this will work when ignition switched off, since most of the cars has always ON power socket now. Do we need to plug in every time we start the car and unplug it when it's switched off?

The dashcams in all my cars (Cedia, Polo and Brio) are obtaining power from the 12v socket, none of them is hardwired. I keep them plugged in all the time and there are no issues whatsoever. The camera comes on everytime the car is started and goes off when turned off.
Other people in my circle are using their dashcams in the same manner and it is working fine for everyone.

You must check if your car's 12v socket is actually Always ON all the time.

I think most cars have the 12V socket normally off. In my Hyundai I10, it comes on at acc power and my VW Jetta it comes on with ignition.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

My car(Skoda rapid) manual says this,

Quote:
The socket also operates if the ignition is switched off. When leaving the vehicle, never leave people who are not completely independent, such as children, unattended in the vehicle.
Improper use of the power socket and the electrical accessories can cause fires and other serious injuries.
CAUTION
Connecting appliances when the engine is not running will drain the battery of the vehicle!

The delivery happened well within the allotted time limit.
Is there any customs clearance formality required for this product? If yes, please provide details. Thanks.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Best of Waste

My “Love me or Hate me” stuff, which I would like to share.
Useful fixtures for a Handy cam & mini water proof Camera.
Reason,
-Video recording on a long run, a grip Handle will add-on comfort & give steady Videos.
-More flexibility in Video recording.
-At some circumstances Camera needs to be secured to a fixed point. These fixtures comes in handy, allowing hand’s free recording.
-A Camera with a ‘remote’ or ‘WIFI’ gives a new dimension for these fixtures.
Fixture direction,
-Handy , less weight & easy to carry.
-Easy fixing & quick releasing .
-Adaptability to any available fixing point.
Materials used,
Mini angle Grinder grip handle( no one uses it), Old mini Drafter( any Engineering student will have it), Old speaker Magnet & Camera attachments(the only parts that were bought).

Work Visuals,

1. Angle Grinder handle. 2.Mini Drafter Clamp. 3.Safety clamp for the Handle.

Quick release Demo.

Hand held option.

Car external Option(Plastic pads on both sides avoid scratches, Glass safety & firm fitting).

Head rest fitting.

Magnet fixture, Roof top & Side fixture.
The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread-roof-magnet.jpg
I have tried roof top fixture at a speed of 45 km/h max on a non windy day. Camera weight, 200 gm. More not recommended.
Side attachment, strictly when vehicle is at stationery.

Lastly,
Yes, I do know, there are many acc fixtures available in the market but doing it on your own & to your requirement gives more satisfaction.

Hope this post belongs here.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Ever since I installed the Blaupunkt 2.0 dashcam the FM in my car was getting heavy distortion.
Last week the charger broke and I ordered a new one from amazon. One of those with multiple USB ports in it.

Connecting the dashcam with a USB cable resolved the EMI issue and I finally have FM available in my car.

I too got the same dashcam in my car, thankfully no issues till now.

Were you able to source long USB cable also online? Since the one with OEM charger does not have USB head.

Also, someone had mentioned that this USB port / compact chargers tend to heat up soon. You may want to keep an eye on the same.

I bought a 1 meter long USB cable from Amazon. Will try and source a longer one as this cannot be routed from the sides. Its ugly

Thanks for the headsup on the heating issue. I will definitely keep a watch for it.

I have ordered two units of this dashcam.
Online reviews suggest that it has good video quality and this being a capacitor based unit will not give any trouble even in the peak summers.
You can go ahead and order one. This is probably the cheapest dashcam (with the current discounts being offered on GB) to have a capacitor.
