Going to buy Novatek Mini Car DVR Camera GT300 Dashcam

after spending a lot of time on this thread, I think I would certainly like to grab one for my old old Santro, I don't have a huge budget as of now for Car Dash Cam.

I plan to order this soon
100% Original Novatek Mini Car DVR Camera GT300

At Rs.1002, I don't think there's any other option to even consider against this model.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

The mini 0805 that I have been using for a year is practically invisible from outside. It costs less than $100 for a gps enabled device and has very good night performance.

All

I have the same query as Kabir's. Do we need to remove the Dashcam each time you park in the sun for some time?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I remove the mini 0805 only when I give it for service. Never touch it otherwise, it works fine even during 10 hour drive in hot sun. Even during outside parking, since it is almost invisible, I don't care to remove.

As I wanted to know that my car is under sun for approximately under 3 hours i.e. Between 11am-3pm. Will that affect the dashcam or should I detach it when it is under the sun.
Also i will detach the cam when I am on long drive for its safety.

I used to attach it to front windshield and the camera used to get very hot when car was parked under the sun. So I attached it to IRVM as I've posted a few posts back. My car is parked in open always as there is no covered parking at home. I have removed it when parking at Malls or at locations where I feel the car will not be under constant watch. I have not used the parking feature as yet.

1. Doesn't get heated up due to the direct sunlight.
2. Coverage area has increased considerably. Both A pillars are visible.
3. It gets camouflaged due to being on inside and also due to reflection on the front windshield.

@Kabir3551 I couldn't understand your point, why would you remove it when you go on a long drive?

Although your question isn't directed at me, allow me share couple of points-

I understand your concern for the cam's safety (intention to protect from theft).
Although, consider this:
The mechanical interface between cam & the cam-mount is "not-that-rugged".
In my opinion, if you do daily plug out-plug in, you are going to wear out the contacts sooner, than you would, otherwise.
May result in cam 'not-charging' while plugged in on the mount.
OR worse,
may result in the fit being loose, resulting in wobbling/shaky cam (while going over rough roads).

And what about your safety, buddy
Simply put, this is defeating the basic purpose of the cam!!

If you meant, you will remove the cam, whenever it's parked (while you're away from home, or on holiday etc, that makes sense. BUT make sure you plug it in & it's recording before you drive.

Think of it - If you have the camera, you want it recording ALL the time you are driving / parked (while car is on), simply because we DON't know, when it's service would be required.

This question is legit - about parking in the sun.
I have read a couple of instances, where parking in direct-hot-sun has spoilt a few cams.
Having said that, in Pune weather / Mumbai weather, we have been parking our car in sun/shade (not anywhere in direct sun, mostly), and our 0801 mini cam has not given us any problem in it's ~2 years of service.

Thanks,

Ace.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

BoneCollector I am actually getting the dashcam to record the long trips and have a good memories about it. Coming back to your query. I meant to say that, when my car is parked/stationed at hotel or elsewhere during long trips I think of detaching for the safety during night time.
@BoneCollector and Driverace does Transcend DrivePro 220 camouflage well??

Valid point Driverace. I guess i have to just drop the idea of detaching the cam.

SJ4000 wifi @75USD (~5300 INR) shipping included

Guys,

SJCAM SJ4000 WiFi @75 USD (~5300INR ) free shipping

is the best camera with battery (~>60 mins) & has included motorcycle helmet mount?
I am sold on this one, after watching quite a few reviews & after talking folks who have this cam.
Thanks to @naditya for recommending this to me.

Any better deal/vendor/site-to-buy-from , guys?

Any other suggestion with similar or better battery life?

Here is SJ7000wifi @ 54USD, but this isn't original SJCAM dash camera
and I am not really willing to experiment.

Also, what is the current scene on paying the customs for this camera (bought through gearbest)?

Thanks in advance,

Ace.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

For all the people considering the Go Pro type of cameras to be used as dashcams, I see that even if there is bundled windshield mount, it can be used only when you use the transparent housing and that means, the MicroUSB port is not exposed and I cannot keep power ON to the camera all the time. So how do you go about it ? Or recharge it daily and then use without connecting to cable ?
Sorry if I am missing something and there is a way to keep power on to the camera when mounted which I don't know of.

I never remove it. My car is parked in the hot sun for 5 hours every week day. Maybe cheaper dash cams may melt i am not sure.

Ace.
It all depends on the individual car and the place. My ride is a Safari and when parked under the sun during the summer in Madras, the internal temperature rises to almost 70 degree C. All the externally fitted electronics behave oddly until the AC cools them down to more normal temperatures. They have not failed of course. But then I haven't left the car entirely out for a full day. I keep sheets of white cardboard in the front so that I can minimize the heat.

I still have 3 M CR70 suncontrol film on the windows. It must be the big sized glass windows.

Kabir, Thanks buddy, But, 5300 INR @ gearbest seems like a better deal than 8K INR @ amazon.

If anyone hasn't experienced any particular problem with gearbest (most pages I read here, haven't had any), I think, I will go ahead with SJ4000wifi @ available deal of 5300 INR.

If anyone has any better suggestion speak up now, or forever hold your peace

@Thad E Ginathom

You like his post. Does it mean, you suggest I buy this cam from amazon.in @ 8K INR?

Ace.

The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

After the Supreme Court judgment banning dark films the problem of heating started. Otherwise, one would have opted for dark film which minimises heat in the car. Already members have expressed that they haven't experienced any problem with the dashcam under the sun.
Driverace if you can wait for the delivery of the cam from gearbest then it is fine. Because patience in current time is hard to find. According to you, how many days it will require to reach you??
