Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Is this a good dash cam? It has wifi, 64gb sd card capacity, gps logging and 2 other features which are not of use in india lane departure and collision alert.

Dockap,

Transcend DP220 is a good one. I have it. has almost all that you need in a Dashcam.
The mount which is shipped out of the box is good and sturdy enough for the worst of roads. Remember that it takes videos in 1,3 or 5 min intervals. Files are stored in .mov format.

Thank you for the reply. can you explain about the 1,3 and 5 min intervals. Do you mean that there is no continuous recording and it records intermittently?

Dockap,

You can save record the videos continuously. However the device will save the files to SD card at intervals of 1 or 3 or 5 mins. Files will be timestamped for easy identification.
Hope you got it now!

Godknows, let's see. I guess AliBaba must have some purchase protection.
I already got the refund back to my account. Else even I could have extended the time

Now I have to wait and watch if the other one comes.

Is the GT300 capable of 60fps on 720p? Can anyone confirm this?

If I get my whole order, I'll have an extra GT300 which you can have!

Anyway, I guess its a LONG time off, I guess 24 days for processing & then 2 months for shipment :P

lol Luckily I didn't order Micro SD Cards from Amazon!

25fps on 720p. 1080p too comes at 25fps but not a huge change in quality except for file size. 720p at 25fps is best you can and should be expecting for the price.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi guys,

I currently use my phone as a dashcam by using Daily Roads Voyager app. Is there any advantages in installing a dash cam as compared to using a phone?

Your phone can NOT replace a dedicated dash cam, especially for longer journeys. Having said that, before dash cams i remember having shot our smokey mountains sojourn on an iphone. Nevertheless, dash cams would have much better features to record the journey in comparison to phones.

Can you elaborate on the additional features that dash cams have over a phone? I have contemplated getting a dash cam a few times, but wasn't really convinced if it offered any additional benefits over a phone to justify spending on it. My main purpose is to have some kind of evidence in case of an accident. It will not be used for making travelogues or such.

You will need to make a call during an incident. That time your recording will stop. However if you have a spare smart phone then should be ok! If you get a call, not sure if the app still continues recording too.
