Had to leave on a work trip to Delhi and fixed the device temporarily as the car we were traveling in had no dash cam. It has been recording continuously at max resolution for more than 9 hours now without any errors.

Some observations:

1. Footage clarity is decent during day time. Numbers are readable in close range and slow moving traffic only. The clarity starts to become inconsistent at normal city speeds. I've attached some screenshots below. One of the image is captured at 40-50 km/hr, other two are at crawling speeds. At triple digit speeds, it does not capture a lot of details but the footage is good enough to steer clear of false accusations. I will be using it for rear view, so it serves my purpose.

2. Zenvue app has a very neat UI, easy to understand, no connectivity issues or bugs encountered so far. Recording resolution can be set to 1.5k, 1080p and 720p. There's no option to increase recording time interval from the default 60 seconds. File size is around 42 MB per clip at max resolution. Downloading clips is a breeze.

3. Heating is a concern. The device felt considerably hot to touch in just half an hour of operation even in early morning hours. That said, the higher-than-normal temperature remained consistent throughout the day. The drive included 4 hours of blazing sun as well, with the car's MID indicating ambient temperature of 37 degrees. Even though the device didn't skip a beat, I'm sure the lifespan will be compromised due to excessive heat.

4. Plastic quality and packaging is top notch. Everything feels classy, there are no cheesy words used anywhere on the product or the package. The camera has type C power input and is capacitor-based. The hinge mechanism looks good as of now, but I'm not too sure about its long term durability. Quality of 12v adapter is below average. There are no extra adhesive stickers in the package.

To conclude, provided that it lasts for 2-3 years, Pioneer H120SC can be a much better option than budget Qubo and DDPAI models that offer similar specs. Don't expect any miracles from it just because the package mentions a brand with great recall value. The app is good, design is cool, footage is decent, price is low and after all, as someone rightly pointed out, any dashcam is better than no dashcam.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi. After 7 years of driving my car in Pune traffic, I am now definitely feeling a need for a good dashcam. Can someone please recommend a good car accessories place in Pune (Baner, Pashan, Aundh area preferred but not mandatory) where I can buy and install a good dashcam?
Also - since I am a newbie to the dashcam world, any help on the below questions will be great:
  1. Which would a good model to go for? Will need good clarity in day and night mode
  2. Is there a model that also had GPS positioning / tracking?
  3. Is it better to get this hard wired or connected to the 12V plug? Any issues which can come up with hard wiring?

Me and another fellow BHPian have the botslab G980H on our Kylaqs. I have the Pro version(rear records at 2k) and it has been pretty good so far. Front has 4K Starvis 1 sensor( I don't drive much at night so this wasn't an issue) with 170° FOV and the rear has 140° FOV.

It is super capacitor based, plugs into 12V socket and has parking monitoring, voice commands and some gimmicks like ADAS too (which I have turned off). Got their own branded 256gb card and CPL filter along with the dashcam itself from dashcameras.in. Installation was done by Skoda ASS itself.

Can you share CPL filter link for G980H? Did they recently lauched CPL as Botslab not had it earlier?

Yes. This they have added recently. Link sent in DM. You can check in accessories section of dashcameras.in to get these and the SD card. That's how I found out. They seem to be the official distributors of botslab products in India.

Thanks for the great review!

So how do you start recording on this thing? Do you need to take your phone and use the app? Is there an accessible button or something? I saw that it has an "emergency recording" function, but how does it know what an emergency is (G-sensor based, I guess) and what about the footage leading up to the emergency?

I have now connected it to the 12v port at the back. It starts recording as soon as the ignition is turned on. App is only required to access recorded clips and change camera settings.

There is a red button on the left that can be used for various functions.

Yes, it has a built-in G sensor that starts emergency recording when it senses jolts and shocks. Minor vibrations while going over rumble strips will trigger the G sensor even at lowest sensitivity, so one has to either turn off the G sensor or mute audio alerts completely. I chose the latter.

Unlike drive recordings, emergency clips do not have a 1 minute time limit. The longest clip I've recorded while testing at home was 90 seconds. These clips are stored in the SD card separate from normal recordings so that they do not get overwritten when storage is full. A dedicated section in the app lets you access emergency recordings for normal driving and parking modes separately. One has to look up the footage leading up to the emergency in normal drive recordings, time stamp of the emergency recording helps but still it is a bit of an inconvenience to scroll through multiple 1-min clips.

I guess that's how it is across the board. I have a Qubo smart plug, and that thing is extremely unreliable. It turns off on its own randomly, and the only way to power it back on again is to physically press the power button on the device - defeating the purpose of it being a "smart" plug in the first place. Qubo support has been pathetic to say the least. Needless to say, I use it as a paperweight these days.

Having said that, I was still interested in the Dash Cam Pro 3K because it had the same specs as A510, but came with a super capacitor instead.

I was sitting on the fence, undecided if I should get the Qubo Dash Cam Pro 3K (2025) or 70mai A510 dual channel. Thanks to your review, I steered away from Qubo. The only fly in the ointment is the Lithium-ion battery in the 70mai. Since my old 70mai dashcam Lite also has a Li-ion battery and is still going strong even after 5 years, I decided to take the plunge and ordered the A510.

PS: For those interested, Nexdigitron (I am in no way associated with them. Sharing this for the benefit of fellow BHP-ians) is running a flat 5% off on almost all products across their site. I got the 70mai A510 + CPL filter for 13,965 (includes 5% off + CPL bundle offer).

All dashcams would record continuously in clips of 'x' minutes ( the time provided by Manufacturer) on the sd card. The cards are re-written once they get full. This is when the car is in motion
Some would also have the option of a 'Park-mode' recording, which has motion sensing recording. This is possible when the Dashcam is hardwired.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I have installed this camera in my Fortuner, and I used to get lots of reflections from the dashboard. I installed their CPL filter, but there is a big, dark patch on all sides of the video, introduced by the filter. I have pushed it as far as it would go, which is not much. Also, there are some rainbow-like reflection artefacts in the video.

Has anyone used the CPL filter on a 70mai 810 dashcam? If yes, can you share some pictures of how the filter fits over the camera and any sample video clip?

Thanks in advance for all the pointers.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi All,

Me and 3 of my colleagues have planned to purchase dashcam for our cars after much procastination. We have a budget of around 15K per car for a dual channel dashcam.

We are leaning much towards the 70mai A510 and getting a good deal from Nexdigitron on their saver bundle for Cam + 128GB card + CPL filter + Installation by a FNG, all coming to around 15-16k.

But considering Chennai heat, is it risky to go with a battery based cam and should we go to one with a super capacitor? or is it okay to go ahead with 70mai ?

Also, is there any other suggestions in this range for a good cam with stable app and good clarity recording ?

A dash cam with a supercapacitor is generally a safer and more reliable option. While there are no known cases of battery-related fires reported on Team-BHP, it’s still wise to avoid hardwiring the dash cam for parking mode. Instead, connect it to the car’s accessory power so it operates only when you’re in the vehicle—this way, you can intervene if anything goes wrong.

One issue with the 70mai dash cam is that its internal battery often needs replacement within 1 to 2 years. If possible, consider slightly increasing your budget to opt for a capacitor-based dash cam, which tends to be more durable and better suited to high-temperature conditions.

Thanks @bravo82in! Any suggestions for capacitor based one near this budget or slightly higher?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Another Update: A Qubo engineer visited my place (in rather shabby clothes) and, after checking the camera, declared it dead. However, when he called his senior for a replacement camera, his senior scolded him and asked him to update the software instead. Voila, the camera started working again. So, all in all, it's working now (though I have no idea for how long this time!).

Short story: Please refrain from buying Qubo products; they are just producing poor-quality hardware with patchy software.
