Hello Arijitkanrar,

I recently bought Viofo A 139 PRO for my Hyundai Tucson. Video recording quality is very good. You can check the full review from the link below.

A129 PLUS DUO DUAL CHANNEL DASH CAM FRONT 2K 1440P + REAR 1080P WI-FI HOTSPOT, GPS LOGGER DASH CAMERA ni

Is this good? Image clarity is not on top of the list. Basically for security, and slight blurs are fine too. Max budget is 20K. Any other recommendations?

Yes it is a good option if you are not looking for HDR recording & Sony Starvis 2 sensor.

Also, if you are ok with battery based dashcams then you can look at 70MAI - they are decent but not same quality as Viofo. If you don't want battery based dashcams & would prefer super-capacitor ones then avoid 70MAI & Qubo. All Viofo dashcams are super-capacitor based & a lot of DDPAI dashcams as well.

Hello Amit,

Single channel will cost Rs 27,000 (Front alone) + add Rs 1000 for memory card + 500 for installation. So total cost will be around Rs 28,500. Please refer the link.

Thank you.

I have Viofo A139 Pro (2-CH) installed in my Tucson, I'm aware of the cost.

The person you replied to is looking for a 2-CH dashcam, not 1-CH.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I have seen Almost All the Fellow Bhpians use Normal Micro SD Card (suitable for use in Smartphones only) in the Dashcams which is not capable of withstanding the Overwrites that a Dashcam does.
For example-
Samsung EVO Plus 128GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 130MB/s Full HD & 4K UHD Memory Card with Adapter (MB-MC128KA)

SanDisk Ultraź microSDXC UHS-I Card, 128GB, 140MB/s R, 10 Y Warranty, for Smartphones

IIRC Dashcams need more than just EVO, Endurance Cards.

Normal Micro SD Cards will fail within 1-2 years or less depending on how frequent the Overwriting happens.

Am I missing something?

While researching about Micro Sd cards, following are the few pointers I came across. There are generally 3 classes of MicroSd cards for consumer usage.
  1. 1. Regular cards for everyday mobile/ tabs/ regular still or video cameras. Mix of average R/W speed and life and comparatively lower price. (Sandisk Ultra, Samsung Evo Plus, etc)
  2. 2. Performance cards for specialised high speed usages likes 4k Video recording, etc. Very high R/W speeds, above average life and comparatively very high price (Sandisk extreme, Samsung Pro Plus)
  3. 3. Endurance cards for for specialised multiple re-writes and tough environments. Average R/W speed with higher life and pricing in between Regular and Performance cards. (sanDisk High Endurance, Samsung Pro Endurance, Transcend High Endurance, etc)
  • Life of cards can be measured in TBW (Terabytes Written), which is the total amount of terabytes data written during a card's lifetime.
  • Example for a card rated at 10,000hrs @ 26Mbps would be : 26Mbps = 3.25MB/sec (26/8) = 11.7GB/hour (3.25MBps*3600s/1000) = 0.0117TB x 10,000hrs = 117 TBW
  • TBW would be proportional to card capacity, although practically it would have slight variation. 100 TBW @ 128Gb card would have roughly 200 TBW for 256Gb card
  • TBW varies by brand and their product lines basis the no of hours and average speed they consider/ test their cards at. Actual life/ no of re-writes would also vary according to file size (which depends on video resolution)
  • This also depends on the blocks/ block sizes that memory card uses when writing the data (Haven't understood its impact yet)

Theoretically, High Endurance card is designed and best suited for dash/ surveillance cameras.
Now, On my Dashcam recording's file size is roughly 200Mb for each minute at 2K resolution.
On a 256GB card if we consider 240GB as usable, it would be 1200mins or 20hrs recording capacity.
Considering my regular drive of around average 12-15hrs a week, which is when recording happens, it would be 15hrs recording per week (In Parking, I keep it on motion detection mode so minimal recording).
On a 100TBW SanDisk Ultra card it roughly translates to 8,500hrs even on lower side estimate. On SanDisk High Endurance card rated 234 TBW, it would be 20,000hrs.
This would mean life of around 570weeks or 10.9yrs on Ultra 256Gb Card and 1330weeks or 25.6yrs on High Endurance card. Even if we were to consider 10-15% lower life due to temperature swings, uncertainity, etc., it would still be ~9yrs and ~20yrs respectively.

Pricing of SanDisk Ultra 256GB is ~INR 1,550 vs High Endurance 256GB is ~Rs. 1,950. Even 9yrs given by Ultra card is a long time. But, if I was getting more than double the life time at 400 extra bucks, I would consider High endurance a better bet.

Also, sharing a rough table I had created for comparison of cards.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hello Bhpians,

After reading through the thread for last 30-40 pages, I have narrowed down to buy the 70mai Pro Plus+ A500S Dual Channel along with a CPL filter . I have a query regarding the SD card capacity. I already have a Sandisk 64 GB EVO plus card. My doubt is whether this SD card would suffice and what would be the runtime it would be able to save without being overwritten ?

Thanking everyone in advance.

I have the exact same dashcam setup in my Zest.
I set it up in mid June-2023. Please see my post (The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread) (post #4559) in the same thread where I have put up 2 videos so that you get an idea of the quality.

So far I'm happy with the video quality. I rarely download videos from the dashcam on to my mobile/laptop. So far no heating issues (though, I live in moderate weather Bengaluru).

My relative picked up from Amazon in the US. Cost me about Rs.18,000 inlcuding front & rear dashcams, hardwire kit, 2 CPL filters, SD card and fuse tap.
However, I have not hardwired it yet. Presently connected through 12V port.

Let me know if you need any other details. I will help you the best I can.

I use Samsung EVO 128 gb card and usually get 6-8 hours of recording depending on quality and day/night recording. So I guess 64 gb card would be about half of that.
After initial excitement of viewing and saving clips, now I don't bother that much and let it overwrite. In case, I really want to save a particular clip (during a drive to a scenic place), I press emergency video recording so that the clip is saved in a separate folder and I can transfer at a later time without worrying about it being overwritten.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hello BHPians!

Last week I ordered the DDPAI Mola N3 Front Dashcam, from Nexdigitron Online Store, for my Dad's 2011 model Innova. Today, got it installed from a popular car accessory shop here at my hometown, Kasaragod. Main reason to buy a dashcam was after I saw the news of recent attacks on few car owners due to some local miscreants at Bengaluru. Since, I am planning to take Innova to Bengaluru next month as WFO has resumed, I do not want myself to be in any such attacks.

However, after installation, I am having the below queries/concerns regarding the dashcam:
  • The dashcam keeps turning on-off when the vehicle is in ignition. Is it due to the car's battery or any defect with the dashcam or with the SD card (currently, it is a Samsung Evo+ 64 GB)?
  • The iOS app of the DDPAI has made me frustrated to an extent that I regret buying this dashcam. I have written a mail to DDPAI asking to fix their app at the earliest. App gets frozen when opened, sometimes navigation is possible when connected but somewhere in between again hangs/crashes.
  • I saw the product's details in the official website where they mentioned the dashcam consumes very less voltage from the battery (in my case, hardwired). So, will this drain the battery considering the vehicle is old? Old battery was replaced with a new one few years back.
  • The WiFi SSID of the dashcam is either poor (keeps disconnecting) or my iPhone 11 is unable to catch the signal steadily, not sure exactly who is the culprit. But, when I tried with my Moto G42, the dashcam's SSID itself was not shown (vehicle's ignition was off).

It would be of great help if anyone who have experienced similar issues, guide me on how to overcome the same (except their poor iOS app).

Drive safe!
Sud.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hello Everyone,

Have ordered DDPai Z50 dual channel dashcam along with CPL filter, OBD II Port connector and hard-wiring kit for my 5th Gen Honda City VX CVT; i currently have the HP F800X Dashcam and it has served me well over the past 5 years. Ordered both OBD II Port connector and hard-wiring kit as I was in two minds on which one to go ahead with. Would fellow BHPians suggest to get the dashcam hard-wired or use the OBD II Port connector for the parking mode. If hardwiring, may you please suggest a couple of installers to get the same done in Hyderabad; I am not confident of taking the DIY route yet.
