Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Thanks @batish for sharing the image of supported cards.

I would also like to add my experiences in using Viofo T130.

I have tried Sandisk 128 GB High Endurance and 512 GB Sandisk Extreme Micro SD with Viofo T130. BOTH WORKS !. But withn 2-3 days the recording sequence keeps re-initializing.

SanDisk 128 GB High Endurance works fine for the first 2-3 weeks and then after that every alternate day the recording function will keep re-initiliazing.

Though 512 GB card was able to record to its full capacity, the frequent re-initializing will be a pain as after few days this will start occuring every 10 minutes.

I have now changed to SanDisk Extreme 256 GB and it works perfectly fine. Only thing is that we need to do a complete format of the SD card once every 15 days. I have now observed this for 3 fortnight cycles.

Have the following queries:

1. Does the Li-ion battery in 70mai pro+ cause any problem during summers? (I face temperatures exceeding 40 degrees during summer seasons)
Avoid batteries if you can. Our temperatures are extreme. Read previous posts, you'll find out why I suggest to avoid batteries for any accessories.

2. I was reading about some heating up issues with A119 Mini. If someone is using it then how has been your experience so far?
Haven't used A119 Mini as I wanted dual one, so got A229. If you find heating issues you can return it. Since you want a dual setup too, then why A119 Mini? Get A229 Duo if you don't have budget issues. See this thread for reference (VIOFO A229 Duo Front and Rear Dashcam | Review & Initial Impressions)

3. Is the difference in price worth it?
Haven't used any other brand than Viofo, so can't say but I am pretty happy with all their devices. They work fine and earlier ones are discreet too. Plus they update their models firmware often, hence never changed brand. Check viofo.in as this is the only official dealer for India. I don't know if offer is still running but he discounts 1k for UPI payments. Rest you can whatsapp him there might be some discounts.

Do note that I may install a rear camera later on and having that as an option will help. Not sure if the Mini has the option.
I don't have a fixed budget in my mind so far. So, open to any better suggestions.
Since budget is flexible, get a dual one now itself. No point in prolonging it. However you install you can wire both cameras for once. No point in getting one later on as you'll have to adjust, pull, fix all the plastic panels again for rear camera's wiring.

Since you have to format this after few days what exactly is the point of having large capacity card? Even other than this issue, for city driving what exactly is the point of having large capacity cards?

Max to max you'd need previous 2-3 days of footage if anything happens, so why expensive, high capacity, fail-prone cards?

Your point definitely makes sense. I will check with viofo.in and see if they provide any discount.

What doesn't help is the extremely high cost of Viofo products. I don't have any problems paying them but I don't think they are offering significant advantages over 70mai product which costs ₹12k for dual setup. So, my mind is saying 2 things

I was kind of wishing for a middle ground where I buy the front setup now and buy the rear camera later on. Though it is starting to look like that might not be happening

Anyways, thanks for your input.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi Team,

I recently purchased a DDPAI Mola N3 GPS dashcam for my Harrier. I do not intend to hardwire the unit. The supplied cable is about 3.5m and I'm unable to reach the power port which is situated in the glovebox.

I ordered the below extension cable - but it does not work.

https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B00...0?ie=UTF8&th=1

Any workarounds?

This extension won't work as Dashcam requires 12V whereas USB provides 5V. The cable length is sufficient even for your glove box.

I estimate the problem is with your routing. 12 feet is sufficient for any car even if the power socket is in second row. Try doing it the correct way.

Anyway, coming to the point you can buy this extension from any Maruti dealer or can place an order online. Link (Part Number : 990J0M999L1-550)

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Does anyone have the record duration to storage used info for a 2 channel dashcam, like the DDPAI Mola-N3, and at what resolution ? Can the resolution be changed in settings ?

You can check the recording time calculator on Dashcamtalk.

Regarding recordings for dual channel, both take up same space like if front camera's recorded file is 600 MB, same would be for rear as well as they both record at same resolution and frame rates.

Haven't used DDPAI but usually resolutions can be changed. Viofo has several options including frame rates as well, I suppose would be same for DDPAI as well. Why not check that in settings?

I have the app installed on my phone, running Android 13, however not able to find the app on Playstore. However Apple app store still has that:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1068133495

However its present in popular 3rd party app stores like Aptoide

Hope it works for you

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Just got a replacement dashcam for my Yi dashcam after 6 years of use. I went with 70mai M500 with internal eMMC storage. Wish it could have been super capacitor based. Can add external TPMS and see the values in their app. One irritating issue is the app is not connecting automatically to the dashcam wifi? Can anybody help out regarding that?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Is anyone using SJCAM as dashcam? if YES, can the battery be removed while using it as dashcam? (for safety).
I am considering buying one so that i can use it for bike rides, my budget is 10k, at that price "sjcam s6 sports" is the right model? or any other alternative which can be also used for short bike rides?
I will be moving my current YI cam to rear.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Thanks to some wonderful suggestions from @batish, I ordered Viofo A229 from Viofo.in and have installed the same in our S Cross.

Have to say Mr. Vijay is an honest & professional seller. He kept me updated throughout the entire process from enquiry to delivery and even guided for installation steps. Also, to start with he did not have any mechanic details from my city. But he was quick enough to get some info from his previous customers and gave me the details.

That said installation is not that difficult if you don't have side and curtain airbags. Just run the wires through the roof liner, ABC pillars and you are fine. I did not have side & curtain airbags, but I went ahead with installing the rear unit by running the wire through the floor board. One critical observation that I want to share is that while installation of the rear camera, if you run the wire through the floor board then the wire falls slightly short for cars above 4m in length. I would advise to get the 8m cable instead for longer cars with 6 airbags to avoid any cutting & patch work to the rubber unit for passing wires in the dickey. Have shared the same with Mr. Vijay and he said that he will consider adding the option to opt for longer wire while ordering.

The camera unit itself produces quality videos (not including any as internet is full of it). Will keep everyone updated on how the unit behaves in the long term & especially in summers.

Do note that ordering from Viofo.in is also a bit cheaper when compared to Amazon (same seller).

Would definitely like to see some Indian brand building similar dashcams with super capacitor units to reduce costs further.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I have Blaupunkt 2.0 Dashcam.

Could someone please inform about Free Video Editing Software for Editing the video recorded in above Dashcam?
Adding Text, Shapes (Arrow), Cropping duration of video, etc.

Windows 10 64 bit Laptop if that matters.

As an open source geek, my first preference is Avidemux.
