Why not go nuclear and araldite it in place for ever? I mean the camera to mount; not mount to windshield.

If the broken section is removable then you can see if your local 3D printer can scan and print it for you.

Another suggestion (you probably have already have thought of) is to glue it in some form, since there is a suction cup, it can still be removed at the suction cup level for portability.

I have an almost identical suction mount that I used on my G1WH dashcam and had the exact same issue as you have. I did what Sridhu (quoted below) suggested - I used Araldite and permanently glued the mount to the camera.

However, much much much later, I experienced another issue - the USB cable that powers the dashcam became loose (at the dashcam end) and would not click into place - I have to hold it pressed for the dashcam to power on. Therefore, with a very heavy heart I had to dump the dashcam (which still works perfectly BTW, even after seven years) and buy a brand new dashcam (Viofo A129 Plus Duo).

BTW, I do have a spare suction mount for that dashcam and you are welcome to it, whenever I come to Madras next; or whenever you come to Bangalore next.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I am planning to get a dashcam for my ecosport. Have mostly finalized on the DDPAI due to the super capacitor. Have a couple of questions to the fellow BHPians who are using the dashcam:
  1. How many times have you used the display in the dashcam? Presence of display makes it quite obvious and at times it may be an issue. Wondering if I am missing any pros of the display.
  2. Is it of any use to go with GPS? Though I am mostly a sensible driver, I dont know if I would want to have my speed, route etc printed on the videos.
  3. Also, if anyone knows any good car workshop which can install the dashcam neatly(without those wires dangling) around RR Nagar/JP Nagar/Kengeri, please let me know.
Would appreciate some feedback on the above questions.

I would also like to know if anyone can recommend a guy in Bangalore who can hardwire a Viofo [front only] camera in a Volvo, which has airbags in the A pillar. Any suggestions?

Many times. It certainly helps. You get to know when the camera is attached to computer - which mode it is in, easy to view and change settings too. Small screen is better than no screen. Please note I have never used any dashcam app although mine has wifi but never used it. So, if your model has an app which works well then you can manage without a screen.

Yes, GPS is quite helpful. You can switch off speed if you want and nope, your route is not printed on videos, only the coordinates are. These coordinates can be read by any dashcam viewing software which makes up a map. See dashcamviewer.com, on home page itself you'll see the use of GPS.

If you have the budget get the one with GPS.

Unsolicited advise: Ask the ASC first if they are okay with hardwiring this. They can easily refuse warranty claims in future especially the electronic ones if anything goes bad. IMO, hardwiring a third party dashcam in a Volvo seems bit risky. Use the adapter with cigarette socket. If your car has socket in boot, plug it there. If you can, don't tamper with A pillar, just remove rubber beading from doors which you can do with bare hands easily, tuck the wire in and put the rubber back on. No need to tamper with A pillar.

1. If you are worrying about screen will be on all the time thereby causing distraction, you can enable screensaver to switch off the screen after certain time.

2. GPS is helpful. Dashcam should have option to disable GPS info print on videos. If you want to put a video publicly, but don't want to show GPS coordinates and speed, you can use a video editor to zoom it, which will take out border areas of original video. I use Shotcut.

Visited nearby accessories store for installation which costed another ₹500 ( Concealed neatly through plastic frames and glovebox)

While the camera performance is decent the iOS app of DDPAI is absolute garbage , which i was not at all aware of.

70mai has far better apps for both android and iOS.

Would be happy to answer specific questions if any.

Hi Ajinkya,

I am looking for a good dual cam setup (front + rear) ideally with Sony CMOS sensor. Can you share the contact details of the Digitronix store and possibly the map pin as well please?

Also regarding the installation, how good is it holding up since you got it installed ex: rattles, cable tugging, etc? If you have any contact details of the accessories guy as well it will be appreciated.

Overall, how is the camera serving you? Any hiccups or niggles during your brief ownership so far?

From what I have read, the power wire needs to run behind the airbag in the A pillar. If you run it across the A pillar, it will come in front of the airbag if it deploys.

My question is if I run it BELOW the A pillar, between the A pillar and the dash surface wont it stay away from the curtain airbags?

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I bought a DDPAI Mola N3 GPS dashcam, and installed it today on my Brezza. I did not go for hardwiring, but did a concealed wiring with the USB cable to the charging port in the boot.

The port in the boot is usually unused, so using that for the dashcam did not impact any other regular connections
The USB cable provided was sufficiently long to reach the boot through the roof liner and trim, about 20 cms additional

Some noteworthy points:
  • The electrostatic sticker doesn't stick on the windshield area with frit (dotted surface behind IRVM)
  • When stuck under the frit area, the cam was positioned lower, visible from inside and causing some hinderance to view below the IRVM, I didn't like it that way
  • So, stuck the adhesive tape directly on the windshield in the frit area without electrostatic sticker. It seems firm and sturdy enough, will see if it loosens when heated etc.
  • The cam now is fully hidden behind the IRVM, neat.
  • The USB cable was drawn via the roof panel(pry tool provided came handy here), driver side edge of roof (by easily removing the rubber beading), all the way to C pillar. It was pulled inside the C pillar trim and into the boot area where there is a closed cubby hole where suspension spring mount edge is. It is then drawn via the slats right above the USB port and boot lamp.
  • Started the cabling both ways from C pillar trim. My kids helped with pulling it into the boot area, small hands helped pull it inside the cubby hole and through the slats

Here are some pictures, not so clear because it was clicked after the job was done and in a hurry.

How it is connected to charging point in boot. It was drawn into the cubby hole and from there through the slats above charging port. Here is where kids helped

Note: I am not an expert, pulling out rubber beadings and drawing cables through roof liner for the first time. Found it pretty easy to do, so welcome fellow noobes to DIY.

Yes. There's just one wire for Viofo dashcams which is the power one. See post #4106, Page 274 - 4th image.

Just like that remove the rubber beading, which you can do with bare hands. Run it beneath the rubber beading. This option is the easiest one - without opening anything and this is not across the A pillar but on it's extreme left. You'll understand it better from the image.

Now coming to your point, as you wish to do it exactly below the A pillar, for that you'll have to stick the wire on the A pillar or behind the plastic trim of A pillar so that it does not move and is away from airbag. You can do this with tape or clips but it requires removing A pillar trim. This one would be little complicated if you're not used to DIYs. Better to get this done from someone who knows the process.

Since you have Viofo why don't you contact viofo.in? He can help you out as he's the only official distributor in India. He must be having details of dealers/installers.

As per the information on their website, it looks designed by DDPAI based on A2 and assembled in India
Any info on this will help.

Reasons for shortlisting NEXDIGITRON A3,
Budget Dashcam (4.1K including CPL filter)
Removable (can disconnect when giving for service)
Gets decent footage
Super-Capacitor based (as opposed to Lithium battery)

Others that I looked at,

DDPAI Mini Car Dash Camera - Rejected as it cannot be removed
DDPAI MOla N3 (better video quality, maybe slightly better at number plate reading) - Second choice

Not planning for a rear dash cam, may go with one more NEXDIGITRON A3 in the future if I feel it is a must.
Also not planning to hardwire kit as have a covered basement parking covered by building CCTV
May I know which one you went with finally?
My choice is also Nexdigitron A3 or DDPAI Mola N3 for front camera.
Will get a rear camera later, if I feel its required.
