You are right. It has stopped working or recording. I have footage till May 2020 and nothing after that. Not sure if card went bad or somebody fiddled with the camera and put it on standby. Not sure.

Thanks.

It's the card if you don't have a specialist one (surveillance/endurance), installed. Can't stress that enough

I think for a dashcam, on loop recording, it is better to use the largest capacity card that it will accept because it gets rewritten that many times lesser than if you use a lesser capacity one. I am no electronic guy, but I feel there must be a certain number of times a card can be completely rewritten before it starts acting up. I am using a 128Gb card on my dashcam and keep the recording at 720p instead of full HD except when I want to keep the footage for viewing for pleasure, like, for instance, driving off road or, on a really scenic drive.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Got the 70Mai Dash Cam Pro (with GPS) delivered today. It came in a tiny & neat packaging. Installation was not that tough (thanks to all those installation videos uploaded on Youtube). I'm yet to caliberate the ADAS unit (tried twice but it failed to do so). May be I need to take the car on a highway and then try it as inside city it's not working out for me.

Here are some pics of the unboxing... I will upload the post Instllation pictures & footages later (after testing it for some time).

After reading the response from @Sebring above, I am in a dilemma if my Samsung EVO Plus memory card would serve te purpose or I need to switch to Endurance series for better results.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Hi guys! I need your suggestions and inputs on my intended dash cam setup:
1. I am planning to go for separate cams for the windshield and the rear glass. This is because I don't want to wire the rear cam all the way to the windshield. Of course, this entails separate apps and power supplies. However, the car is new, and I really don't want to open the panels/roofliner all the way fom the tailgate to the windshield. I also have a separate USB power outlet in the boot to hook up the rear cam. This also makes the setup modular, as any failure is localized at the front side or the back side. Of course, I will need an extra memory card too. However, this will increase the overall storage.
2. As my car is mostly parked in the basement, I am not thinking about the in-built capacitor/battery issue ( maybe I should). Please correct me if I am wrong, but a battery should not be a problem on long drives with the AC switched on. When the car is parked outside under direct sunlight for a long time, the cams can be removed, and remounted again. I don't plan to hardwire the cams.
3. A suction-based mount seems to be more convenient, as it can be removed as and when required. Moreover, I don't want to stick anything permanently on the windshield and the rear glass.
4. I have browsed through a number of brands with a range of features in this thread. My dealer is suggesting a ROAV A0. Apparently, it is a Maruti-certified accessory. I am not sure about this. However, he says there won't be any issue with the vehicle's warranty. My budget is around 10k-15k for the entire setup.
Thank you.

1. Routing the Cables from the DashCam to USB port won't require uprooting of panels in most of the cases as the wires can be concealed under the rubber seals. The roof liners also have some space by default where the wires can be hidden.

When hiding the cable under the panel you don't need to remove it. The cable can be easily tucked in/under by using the prying tool and lifting the panel to make space.

It goes for both front and rear installation.

2. Dash Cams with batteries inbuilt have an advantage where they can perform an emergency recording even when the vehicle is parked/turned off.

3. Suction ones are the best, however, you can also search for the ones which are plug and play (Eg. DDPAI Mini 3).

They can be carried along easily.

4. I don't think any dashcam will void the warranty since its drawing power from the USB ports and its safe. I think the dealer is making a convincing case so that you buy the dashcam from him. That's my take on it.

In fact, if you can share the model of the vehicle it would allow members to guide you with the installation.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

I am planning to install a dash camera in my Ecosport. Now apparently there is an issue with Ecopsort as the 12V socket has power supply even after switching off the ignition and as a result the battery drains out if you leave the camera connected.

What can be a walk around for this? My car has 2 years of warranty left and hence I only want to limit myself to a plug and play kind of installation with no messing around with the car's electricals. Should I just resort to disconnecting the dash camera charger from the power outlet every time I switch off the car? This would be tedious and also prone to occasional instances when I forget to unplug it and resultant battery drain.

Check out this thread - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/diy-d...r-dashcam.html (DIY: Hardwiring your Dashcam)

OP has an Ecosport and uses a fuse-tap cable from a fuse that turns off with the ignition to power the dashcam.

This was discussed few pages back, you can check this from this post (The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread).

My friend uses a 12V socket splitter with switches in his Ford Ecosport, which allows him to switch off the dashcam power. I have posted a sample photo on post #2995.

Re: The Dashcam / Car Video Recorder (DVR) Thread

Recently I purchased DDPai mini dash cam with hardwire kit during Amazon prime day sale.
Got it for 3900.

I was checking the quality of images during twilight today and found that number plate of even stationary cars parked 30-40fts away is not clearly visible.

Is there any other bhpian with similar observation?

Not satisfied with the purchase, Thinking of returning the product.

Thanks Danny. I too was on the lookout for the same. I went to their website and looked for simpler Dashcams(D series). They are quite responsive and already shared their brochures. Not much reviews on Amazon. So, will have to rely on them. Will update here if I ended up buying one of them.

I have just got the 70mai Dash Cam Pro. The default video setting was with H.265 which I have not changed. I was able to play the video back in VLC player (3.0.4 version) on my laptop. I am yet to fix this cam in my car. However I had a couple of questions for you.
  1. Does the GPS unit start working only if you enable ADAS? I have not done that yet and do not see the speed and location coordinates in the video when I play it back on the dash cam itself.
  2. Are you able to see the speed and location coordinates while playing the videos back in Windows Media Player?
  3. Do you see the reflection of the dash on the windscreen in the videos? I saw that in some of the online video samples posted by various folks.

Will give a try to answer few of your queries. I have been using this dashcam for over a year now and quite happy with quality of the footage.

You do not see the speed and location coordinate when u play the downloaded version even on the phone or laptop. Its only shown when u play from the cam gallery.

Yes that is a problem that i am also facing with a lot of reflection coming on from the car dash. I tried reaching out to the 70Mai CC to see any settings can reduce it, but no success. In viofo dashcams, u can order a CPL filter which reduces these reflections to a great extent, but unfortunately there is no cpl filter available for 70 mai dashcams yet.
Hope it helps.
